Quoting: Anonymous Coward 27613031 I smell a rat. homeless /= absolutely no money I've met homeless people who don't NEED a home. They live in motels, and make more money every day panhandling, than the people in the stores they panhandle near. If you find a good spot, you can make $300 a day. Maybe not every day, but if you are smart bout it, you can average $150, live in a motel room, and have plenty left over for food, gas, etc... Ask a taxi driver. They've met plenty of these people. |

You know the Obamaphones you refer to were actually started by Ronald Reagan in 1984 as the Lifeline Project as a discount for landlines for welfare recipents, right? And then expanded by Bill Clinton in 1998 to include cell phones. And what is sponsored is so many minutes per month. THE PHONES ARE PROVIDED BY THE SERVICE PROVIDER and not the federal government. And the Lifeline Program is NOT I repeat NOT funded by taxpayers, but a fund levied on service providers who may or may not pass the cost on to the customers. You know those taxes and extra charges you see on your cell phone? THAT is how this program is funded. |
| skyblau User ID: 26844291 11/16/2012 04:51 PM ![]() Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | homeless doesn't automatically mean penniless. A lot of people on disability are homeless, and receive a small check each month, which may not be enough for a rent, utilities, and food each month. It wouldn't be strange that he had a cell phone. I have had several homeless or transient persons stay in my home as guests, and they all had cell phones. I offer them a hot meal, a place to bed down, and a chance for them to wash their clothing, and a bath. This helps them get their bags repacked, clothing fresh, and an opportunity to refresh before going back out. In each case, they were all on disability for mental related. They all told me that they didn't receive enough to cover their rent, and utilities, and still buy food. They have more money being homeless, and are able to make it this way, and yes, they had cell phones. They were all intelligent, some were highly intelligent as well. I have helped a number of people through out the years, and this is my experience. I have not had any bad experiences with the homeless except one lady, but I never had her in my home. I knew exactly who she was, but gave her some food and warm blankets during the last hard winter. I didn't have her in my home, because she doesn't like people, especially children. I am a good guage of character, and can read energies of people, so I haven't had any negative experiences inviting a stranger in my home. I already know what kind of person they are, before I offer. Anyway, there is my two cents on the subject. |
