Re: Had to sell my wedding ring today
I can't believe that even you guys fall for the 1 child policy mantra - have you ever noticed that the elites (Buffet, Ted Turner, Queen Elizabeth, etc.) always have lots of kids?

A very strong, large family is truly the most valuable asset in life. "The Powers That Be" don't want us/you to have one, too, because they know that that is the biggest weapon against them. When a family can depend on itself, it doesn't need government.

Children can cost a lot of money if you raise them in a very spoiled atmosphere but you can also raise them in a thrifty atmosphere with good values. If your goal is to turn out adults that can help fix this messed up system, it can be done. (For example, Ron Paul said in farewell speech last week that homeschoolers would be the only ones that could fix this country and bring back the constitution.)

Be smart, be thrifty, and raise your kids right, people. They are a great asset.

As Dr. Laura used to say, "I am not raising a child, I am raising an adult."

People who advocate large families do so, for the most part, for old-age security for themselves. SELFISH.

And it is preposterous for anyone to believe that if decent and smart people crank out more kids they can save the world.

America and human society is a lost cause.

I will never believe that - EVER.

Re: Had to sell my wedding ring today
Some of the most beautiful memories I have were from when we were extremely poor after having been moderately comfortable financially when my Dad had a stroke on Thanksgiving, money really doesn't matter. Family is what counts, that's what we learned and we all stool have and treasure the "crappy" handmade gifts we made for each other that Christmas.

You'll be fine, your heart's in the right place. God bless.hf

I have been there. I honestly know how you feel.

The first thing you need to do is enter survival mode, all moms have it.

Get rid of any luxuries (cell, cable, internet etc...) you may think you will die but I promise you won't and you will actually enjoy life much more.

Plan your meals so that you can have leftovers for lunches or dinners the next night. Turkeys are the good buy right now, roast one on a sunday and eat off of it turkey sandwiches, pot pies and soups off the rest. Make everything you can yourself, use coupons!

It sucks, it is hard, but sadly it is happening to a lot of people.

Good luck to you and God bless.

I just picked up my gold earrings out of pawn this afternoon. Many people are just doing what they can. I even have a good job but can't seem to get ahead of the curve, I'm overdrawn every month.

Can you see if there are any food banks that can help you out? If you're not used to using the "social justice" safety nets, it may not occur to you. Also, you may qualify for food stamps, contact your county social services.

Look on craigslist for temporary work under "General Labor" or look in "Gigs". Also remember that hospitals are always hiring, even if you work in the laundry, it would be better than nothing. Also the hospital cafeteria staff has pretty high turnover and they are usually looking for people.

I have a friend whose college age daughter joined with a friend and they started clean houses together. They cleaned an apartment for an apartment manager and he liked their work ethic so he told them any time anyone moved out he would call them to clean the apartments.

Sorry you had to pawn your ring. Don't let it expire....

One more thing - some grocery stores sell leftover frozen turkeys for five dollars the day after thanksgiving...I bought six of them one year and gave them away. This year I will KEEP them, lol.

And I'll add this to my post:

WHY THE HELL does ANYONE need 4 kids?!?!
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 27889480

and there are more kids since there is child support. they must have been making a lot of money but they didn't save any of it or didn't make a budget. that is how most people live these days.

Re: Had to sell my wedding ring today
You said you sold it, then you said you pawned it, which is it?
If you sold it, its gone. If you pawned it you can get it back at some point with high interest paid along the way.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 24156714

I am sorry for that confusion I use the term interchangeably but yes I sold it for cash.

I hope your husband wont be angry and that he understands. It sounds really tough in america just to survive. Sorry for what you are going through. Its tough here but its well hidden and the media dont talk about it. They call us the lucky county but its a bunch of bull.
