These new high efficiency washing machines SUCK MAJOR BALLS!
I don't see how I'm saving electricity or water if I have to wash the same load of clothes 3-4 times just to get the dirt out. I did a big load and it threw the machine off balance and broke something inside costing me 100+ to fix, and the stupid thing isn't even a year old.

Had one sold w/house. Sucks...

cleaner clothes if u wash by hand.

Not enough water. If u don't do a load a day u/ better run a cycle w/bleach. If you are on vacation for a week-end you'll know what smells. They hold water in seal all the time.

Need to buy new washer... getting a NON hi-effiency.

One more thing. How efficient are they when you have to wash multiple times or run a load of bleach through.

I guess we can call them a shitty wash.

They state that they are not for heavy soil.
Maybe some of the larger newer ones work better on heavy dirt.

Leave the door open a little when not using it.
I have never had any odor.

Most of the savings is in the dryer.
The clothes spin faster and are not as damp when removed.

They do save some water.

spent extra for mine and regret it every day. It sounds like a jet lifting off and often breaks. We have a warrenty, but often dude can't get out to fix it for a week or so. I cannot wait to buy a new top loader, but can't waste the $$until I get more use of the pricey pos I have now.

They want us to buy them so we have to buy them again in a year or two.

What happened to grandma's washing machine that worked great and never needed a repair?

It's called China and American company's that figured a good product does't need replacing.

Remember that tv your parents had for 20 years or the electric can opener grandma gave u from the 40's. It still works and the companys went under.

I've had two front loaders including the Maytag brand and I've got an old fashioned top loader now. The frontloaders take too damn long to wash and they fuck up a lot. The only good thing I can say about them is they wash my new balance shoes very well. But that's not enough to keep one.

I have an old Admiral washer and dryer that's about 30 years old - they look like hell but still work fine ! I've only had to replace some belts and a switch relay in all of the years I've had them.
They definitely don't make them like they used to !

hold off buying new as long as possible, because these new washers and dryers all suck. I've been reading nothing but terrible reviews on almost every brand for 2 days now.

Re: These new high efficiency washing machines SUCK MAJOR BALLS!
make sure you get one with a transmission

that would be that tall thing in the middle that agitates

most newer models don't have them

our 10 yo maytag uses 50 gallons on average for a load

the new ones use 17-20

our appliance guy reccommends Roper or Whirlpool

which is like

whirlpool=infiniti
roper=nissan

I've got a top loader that I've had for about 5 yrs now. It has been very good. I was without one until I made enough money to buy one. It cost me around 475 to 500.oo. Best money I've ever spent so far. I wouldn't have a front loader. The damn things stink.

Many of the popular detergents have been reformulated. Try adding a little Borax (found in most supermarkets in the soaps/detergent aisle) to your load of laundry along with the detergent you normally use. This should help.

Got one with silver care before it was banned for use in the states. colloidal silver in every wash works great!

p.s. do have to leave door open though to avoid moldy smell.

We have a 30 year old set as well. I replaced belts and the pump a few times but they run as good as they did from day one. I will just replace parts when needed and keep them going for as long as possible.

ALL of my late 80's kitchen appliances look like hell, but they're just bulletproof. Everyone I know that has newer appliances has issues every few years. I'm holding off as long as I can!

Totally agree HE washing machines suck. My HE top loader is just over one year old and often there is so little water that the soap doesn't dissolve. Have to buy special soap, add Borax and bleach, all additional expenses and still wash some loads multiple times and hand scrub or pre-soak in a bucket to get reasonably clean clothes. GRRR!! I was doing just fine before HE. I'm smart enough to decide how much water I need.

My mom got hers and after the men delivered them and left, she went to wash a load of clothes and the washer didn't even work. She then had to wait several days for them to come back out and fix it. They had to bring her another new one.

Re: These new high efficiency washing machines SUCK MAJOR BALLS!
I bought my Maytag HE 5 years ago. I did have a switch go out in the dryer, but other than that, they have worked great for me. With the extra large drum and no agitator in the middle of the front loader washer, I can wash my large bedspread at home, instead of paying a fortune at the local laundromat.I have saved on my water bill and utility bill, too.
You do have to leave the door open on the washer, or you can get mold. I recommend you put it through a wash cycle with no clothes in it, super hot water, bleach, and 1 measure of soap once every month to keep it clean and odor free.
The washer does sound like a jet engine. The other drawback is the inability to open it and remove the clothes if you get a power failure mid-cycle.The manufacturer needs to put in a manual override, just in case.
