The Catholic Church was infiltrated by Satan early on and continue to practice these things:

Rituals
Idolatry
Pride
Worship of mammon
Placing humans (i.e. Mary) on a pedestal (see idolatry)

Remember that Satan is a grandest deceiver of all time...what better way to deceive than to pretend you're for one thing when the details of your actions speak against it.
