I was thinking along similar lines, except I was thinking that Israel (read hardliners) may flatten the place themselves and say an inbound missile did it.

I think this would possibly create a lot of infighting in the Muslim world and would suit Israel down to the ground, they can be extremely pragmatic and I think this (theoretical situation) would be one of those times.

The Sanai is the area that borders southern Israel, Gaza and the Suez Canal. It officially belongs to Egypt, but was taken by Israel during the '6 day war' Israel gave it back under the 'Camp David Accords' under the condition that it stays demilitarized.

I AM Egyptian and I know - I was joking because you misspelled it - it's spelled SINAI, fyi. It also borders Jordan and Saudi Arabia btw...and it belongs to Asia, where rest of Egypt and Cairo is Africa. Just more fun facts for you.
