The show makes heavy references to 90s/internet pop culture and classic mythology, gives it a bit more depth than previous incarnations of the franchise. It's actually a decent show with some interesting jokes and stories. It is the highest rated show on the Hub and has caused Hasbro to gain large profits through merchandise and licensing the franchise, the bulk of which still comes from the target audience.

The adult fandom, however, displays some strange quirks, such as insecurity, lashing out, and insisting on invading other boards and websites with the show, trying to force "conversions." And most of them care more about their own canons, stories the fans made up, than the actual show itself.

But rather than acknowledge that they have some serious social control issues, they would rather lash out and take out their frustrations on people they consider "haters." IE: Anyone who doesn't share their opinion of the show.

The show has actually become a religion for them, something beyond a healthy respect and love for the show. This has led to some fanaticism and even death threats to the cast and crew due to changes and re-directions in the show's story line.

The behavior of the fandom, as well as the slow decline in the show's quality, has resulted in a massive decline in growth in the brony fandom. Some bronies are still logical and have backed away from being associated with the larger fandom, many have stopped even calling themselves bronies because of it.
