Inmarsat-4 F3 covering the Americas is up, just made a call over it... No problems.

Also the uplink depends on GPS constellation for spot beam selection.. That worked fine too also tried uplink to BGAN over same bird, strong signal and no problems. do commercial sattellites have detectors onboard for things like unusually high electron/ion count, or do operators rely on public data? That's a GOOD question, I have no idea. One would assume a scintillation counter or similar instrument could be easily fitted to the bird and be given a downlink channel in telemetry... Perhaps even interference experienced by the main mission antennas could be sensed as well.. But to be honest, I don't know.. Have to ask
