Sorry to hear OP, I dont have any solutions either.

My boyfriend has narcolepsy. It has only happened once while he was driving (which is a worry)

He can even sleep standing up with a beer glass in his hand.
He's kind of known for it, but noone seems to mind, even though they don't know he is narcoleptic.
