I'll take earthquakes over tornados and hurricanes anyday.

Re: Why do people continue to live in California with the constant earthquakes??? only a matter of time before big one hits
Californians often ask how can people live in areas known for yearly hurricans, tornadoes, locusts, etc.

We californians know it can happen but don't worry about it cuz it may not happen in our lifetime and if it does, we'll always bounce back and annoy the rest of America like we always do

No need to be scared of earthquakes.

Plus...have you been to California?

Visit and you'll see why people live here. Drive up the coast. Go to the national parks. Enjoy the weather, the beaches, the vineyards, the metropolitan areas, the rich history and prehistoric indian tribes, the rich agricultural San Joaquin Valley, the Redwood Empire, the desert, the Sierras, Mount Shasta, Lake Tahoe, Monterey Bay, Santa Barbara, the Channel Islands, San Francisco. I could go on and on.

I agree.
Everybody, move out!
The big one is very close.
Gotta go eat dinner now, good luck with the packing with the very earth under your feet shifting like a mattress on an old bed!
Best run now!

We Californians have a secret: the state is already screwed up. a big quake will actually make it better and more affordable beachfront estate.

Re: Why do people continue to live in California with the constant earthquakes??? only a matter of time before big one hits
...and led zeppelin has a nice about Cali

The sea was red and the sky was grey; I wondered how tomorrow could ever follow today.
The mountains and the canyons started to tremble and shake
as the children of the sun began to awake.

Seems that the wrath of the Gods
Got a punch on the nose and it started to flow;
I think I might be sinking.
Throw me a line if I reach it in time
I'll meet you up there where the path
Runs straight and high.

To find a queen without a king,
They say she plays guitar and cries and sings... la la la la
Ride a white mare in the footsteps of dawn
Tryin' to find a woman who's never, never, never been born.
Standing on a hill in my mountain of dreams,
Telling myself it's not as hard, hard, hard as it seems.

Ding ding ding, we've got ourselves a winner Johnny, tell him what he's won.

We'd also rather put up with Earthquake, which are becoming more and more insignificant as earthquake-resistant structual devices become more advanced and widespread, than deal with volcanoes and superstorms.
(The most dangeorus part of an earthquake isn't the shaking itself, it's the possiblity of a tsunami. As far as humanity has come we have yet to discover ways to protect ourselves from tsunamis, except for avoiding getting in front of their destructive paths. But in time we will.)

I can't wait for the next big quake to hit.

I desperatley need the work. After quakes here, you make mass cash putting mobile homes back up on their jacks and leveling them. Patching cracked cement. Replacing broken windows. all KINDS of work!

And then FEMA shows up 3 weeks later to rescue everyone, and even the bums are suddenly sleeping at the Hilton!

As for "falling into the ocean", the few intelligent people know how plate techtonics work, and understand that over the next 500,000 years as that does indeed happen, albeit slowly, they probably wont live for that long, even with Obamacare...

Basically, the ground shakes a little, and then we go on with our lives.
Unlike you midwesterners who get your entire houses picked up and thrown 300 yards in a tornado, or flooded out, or have trees embedded in your houses during hurricanes, or getting your frosticles severely tested 8 months out of. the year...

There's no coming back. Once California is gone, that's it.
1 Timothy 3:16 KJV
And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory.

Isaiah 9:6 KJV
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

Mark 16:16 KJV
He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

Acts 2:38 KJV
Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

Romans 8:6-9 KJV
6) For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace.
7) Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be.
8) So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.
9) But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.

Matthew 15:8-9 KJV
8) This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me.
9) But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.

Acts 5:29 KJV
Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men.

Nobody who has actually been in a 6 - or even a 5 - would say it's fun. That is always the sign of someone new to Cali, who thinks if they act blase about quakes it makes them cool. it doesn't.

There can only be one explanation!! NAKED PEOPLE!!!
“A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear. The traitor is the plague.” Marcus Tullius Cicero

Earthquakes of significant magnitude that actually "destroy" anything are VERY far and few between.

In fact, 99% of Californians will NEVER be involved in a destructive earthquake ...even if they lived to 100 years old.

Yes, we get literally 10K+ earthquakes per year, however, 99.9% you don't feel them, and the biggest earthquake you'd feel here would do nothing more than put a small crack in the plaster of one of your living room walls.

California is paradise on earth....the most beautiful place in the world and desired by all.
