Funny how what we call fundamentalist mormons that now when in reality they are practicing there basic church doctrines. The reason mormons were driven out of up state New York was because of those beliefs. Truth be told ever main stream mormon still belives in that doctrine only they will get the wives after they die.

furthermore, you can find many articles on current, actual polygamy among mormons. i don't judge it, i don't care.

This is precisely what Brian David Mitchell did when he abducted Elizabeth Smart. In the western United States, there are at least 30,000 people involved in the practice of Mormon-based polygamy. In these polygamous groups, the compulsion for underage girls to marry polygamists--usually men much older than themselves--is a part of everyday life. One asks, where did this practice come from? Why do these offenders take such young girls as wives? What does Mormon doctrine have to do with this?

These are indeed puzzling questions, but the answers are simple. The founder of Mormonism, Joseph Smith Jr. set the precedent for this behavior.

Smith married several underage girls himself. The most notorious example of this is in the case of Helen Mar Kimball. Young Helen married Smith in May, 1843. She was 14 years old; the same age as Elizabeth Smart was at the time of her abduction. Helen's father, Heber Chase Kimball gave his daughter to Smith as a token of his unquestioning devotion. In return, Smith promised that this union would seal up the salvation of the Kimball family. i find the literal beliefs of the lds-church as hilarious as most other scriptures, but i actually have a lot of respect for mormons: they are always extremely polite when spreading their books; they choose a very harsh region to live in, made it fertile and self-sufficient, and currently have enough durable food to last generations. hats off.

The reason Mormonism is not Christian is because it denies one or more of the essential doctrines of Christianity. Here is a basic list of what true Christianity teaches as essential doctrine according to the Bible.

Mormonism denies that there is only one God in all existence and also denies the forgiveness of sins alone in Christ alone. Therefore, it is outside Christianity. It is not a Christian religion.

legally they get around the polygamy by claiming only one wife on state records. This also benefits them in that the second/subsequent wifes claim federal/state benefits due to no income from being a single parent. The "normal" taxpayers foot the bill.

I think the Mormon church basically decided to go against polygamy as a practical matter because polygamy was against the law in the US and it stopped the government from constantly persecuting the church over breaking the law.
