Im totally interested in this phenomenon. As if they stumbled upon some kind of knowledge that drove them to insanity.

A good example are past mathmaticians that ventured into the realm of infinity (some BBC doc i watched)

Anyone know of any people like this?

Do tell.

I have worked with many doctors and scientists

Seems they are so brilliant, they can't cope with the smaller things.

To them, it's the stupidity in the world that drives them off the deep end.

One in particular after treatment, just mentally eliminated the little things in life. So, he couldn't tie his shoes, tuck in his shirt, even couldn't comb his hair. He didnt bother with people's names (even though I worked with him for over 5 years, he never even knew my name).yet, give. Lecture to a roomful of scientists, like a whole different person.

Several, actually. One thing that I think propagates this idea is that many of these guys have Asperger's or similar. To most folks they seem crazy. They will also interrupt conversation with what seems to be a non sequitur, but really, everyone else just can't keep up with the speed of their thoughts.

One guy, now in his eighties, was a young "prodigy" in the years after WWII. Yeah, he worked with Von Braun and his crew. Later, at Los Alamos, he worked on Star Wars, as well as other projects he won't tell me about.

Nowadays, he is working on a theory connecting Newtons laws of thermodynamics to the stock market and similar financial systems.

On top of all that, the guy's a bit of a horndog.

There was an older man around here who used to dress as a king and he was called king love. He would stand on the streets asking for donation to help the middle east. He had several phd's and went crazy after his wife died.

lol
it is ironic, given the subject of your post being an 'educated' man.
