shenandoah User ID: 2636202 United States 11/17/2012 12:54 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | They're both white. Maybe 3 ft tall. Cheap material, almost like crepe paper, but not exactly. Then on the bottom there is a wire circle around the base, and then wire along the base that makes a cross. In the middle of the cross, it looks like some square shaped material thats been burned. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 27943853 Anyway. Who did this? Can people buy this stuff and shoot them up on their own? Or was it a local weather agency? Why do they do it? What should I do with it? Maybe they're spying on you. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 1526835 United States 11/17/2012 12:56 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | "ufo simulators". prankster devices used to get chuckles when folks call in ufo sightings. basically hotair balloons. the burnt square is where the fuel tabs were set alight. there are 2 there because they launched 2 at the same time, and they followed the same path. they used to sell that kind of stuff in comic book ads (though not as "ufo simulators"), probably still do. |

I don't know why my user id changed. could just be deviant adults, lol. the "not quite crepe paper" is probably silk span, a hobbyist paper used for making dope and balsa airplanes. weather balloons are always helium lift, not hot air. just your description told me what they were, pretty much pictured what the photo showed. the funny part is they could have been launched up to 50 miles away, or right up the block, no way to know for sure. if you know a local cop, ask about ufo reports last night (preferably after telling them about your balloons, so you dont end up in a loony file, lol). they seem harmless enough, but one crashing while still having unburnt fuel can actually spark brush fires, set rotten old shacks alight, etc. |

But yea theres one in my neighbors tree. Didn't spark a fire. But thanks I was wondering if they could potentially start a fire. Thank God it didn't. |
