Ranchers, farmers brace for 'death tax' impact
Ranchers, farmers brace for 'death tax' impact
VIDEO: [link to www.foxnews.com]

Rancher Kevin Kester works dawn to dusk, drives a 12-year-old pick-up truck and earns less than a typical bureaucrat in Washington D.C., yet the federal government considers him rich enough to pay the estate tax -- also known as the "death tax." Two decades ago, Kester paid the IRS $2 million when he inherited a 22,000-acre cattle ranch from his grandfather. Come January, the tax burden on his children will be more than $13 million.

This is going to make it hard for people to keep their farms without going deep into debt. Farms should be exempt from this nonsense.

poor farmers.

Farmers who dont grow anything, but just deal with cattle making themselves a killing while the average person struggles to buy beef in the store.

Farmers who sit on their land their whole life and never have to get out and get a real job in the real world while their property is used for nothing when they could be growing crops and hiring hundreds of people to harvest those crops by hand.

Poor Farmers who act as if they are more entitled or better than everyone else just because they own huge chunks of land.

The Death Tax is a communist idea! Realize the money taxed in a death tax has already been taxed many times.
Why can't you extend your well being to your heirs?

Ten Planks of the Communist Manifesto

3. Abolition of all rights of inheritance.
Americans call it Federal & State estate Tax (1916); or reformed Probate Laws, and limited inheritance via arbitrary inheritance tax statutes.

The Ten Planks of the
Communist Manifesto
1848 by Karl Heinrich Marx

3. Abolition of all rights of inheritance.
Another Marxian attack on private property rights is in the form of Federal & State estate taxes and other inheritance taxes, which have abolished or at least greatly diluted the right of private property owners to determine the disposition and distribution of their estates upon their death. Instead, government bureaucrats get their greedy hands involved .

I wont disagree that it is communistic in nature to do this to farmers.but all the farmers in my area are stuck up old men who grow nothing, do nothing, and hire no one. Just fence rows growing up with trees and weeds while they drive around in their fancy trucks looking down upon the less fortunate.

It's confiscation. Eventually the state will confiscate all private property and u will be told where to live. Most will end up in a micro apartment. Watch and see....

Maybe because they don't have the money to buy equipment for real farming?
It's better to let the government own all the land?

IT Does piss me off that they sit on it and won't sell me any land at any reasonable price, but the answer can't be to confiscate the land through taxes.

It also pisses me off that the govt owns large chunks of land along with "Trusts" and the land just sits there, blocking development of towns and housing.

What an imbicile. iamwith I DARE you to go work on a farm and ranch. I work Monday-Saturday, 10 hours per day to keep this place going. On Sunday, I still have to feed the calves that are in the feedlot. When it snows, we have to put hay out for the cows. Making a killing??? Do you realize how much it costs to feed animals? About $400 PER HEAD for ONE WINTER. If a cow stops breeding and is 'culled', guess what she brings at market? (Hamburger) $850. You know what a 3 year old bred replacement cow costs? $1850

How the F can you possibly say 'making a killing'? The beef market is a direct result of the policies that this country has elected. If you want cheaper beef, try voting for cheaper diesel, or fewer EPA restrictions.

"Farmers who sit on their land their whole life".... WTF MAN!!! What else do you expect???? You ever tried raising a garden? You ever take a 3 day vacation to go camping or to a family reunion and come back to find you garden infested with pests? The same can happen on a farm. We are married to the land.

I think it might be wise of you to stop and think about the repercussions of your thought process. If you think your produce is expensive now, try imagining what it would cost when you have to increase the price to pay for your concept of "growing crops and hiring hundreds of people to harvest those crops by hand." Are you 12??? Do you not understand???

There is no more farmland. Land is not being developed at the same rate that people of your caliber are breeding. We cannot continue to feed the growing population without witnessing a price increase. IT's supply and demand.

Man...I don't even want to continue this convo. You have me heated. Please, PLEASE do a bit more research before you start waving a skeletal middle finger at those that provide the food that you require to live. THink about it. rockon

we really dont need any new towns or new housing. Their are empty houses all over the place that could be fixed up and lived in. the government has to set some land aside to protect nature and keep farmers with lots of money and other big corporations from developing that land.

Farmers have screwed themselves over the last 50 or so years, so now they must pay the pauper.

Its called transfer of wealth and Obama was serious about it.

Real job? Have you ever worked cattle, raised crops, or done agricultural work of any sort?

We raise beef, blueberries, hay for horses and cattle, goats, chickens, and have an acre trout pond. You know shit about ranching or farming.

For your information I was raised around farms, I know how a farm works and I currently work in the sawmill industry so dont go preaching and whining to me about it. and most of our food does not come from America where farmers claim they grow our food, it comes from Mexico and other countries.

and as far as harvesting crops by hand, it was done for thousands of years and it worked, employing millions of people, how do you think the south operated before the industrial revolution and invention of machinery. With the price of Machinery today and the fuel to run it, it would be just as cost effective to do it by hand. paying for that machinery just gives corporations your money which in turn pays chineese people to make the junk, its not getting back into the local community.

and as far as the EPA goes, just because there is more regulation doesnt mean you pass the costs on to the customers, you can absorb some of that cost instead of being greedy.

I agree that it's marxist and unjust, however, it pisses me off when old farms around here sell out to the condo developers and then we get more congestion and traffic in towns. We even voted to increase local taxes in order to buy them out to prevent over-development.

We recently inherited property and saw how high the taxes were, Subsequently we had it appraised where the appraisal came in at half of the value the county had placed on the property. Even sending in the appraisal papers the taxes remained the same and they would not adjust it down.

I'm concerned about this because we know our parents scrimped and saved to pass something down to the kids and after the states taxes at 35% they go over 53k. Now add in an additonal 55% for the fed. That's 35% for the state and 55% for the fed for over one million (which isn't that much for a life time of saving and investing in property in todays time) - that's 90%! Something is clearly wrong with all of this because property will end up being owned by the state and governement and the people will be left with almost nothing but taxes.

It was our parents wish we own what they left us not the state and federal government. This type of taxation leaves no incentive to even build an estate for ones own children and is just outright criminal.

It's sad to see this happening already. It's right out of the communist playbook.

Farmers are the enemy. We are the one with the land. We are the evil rich people who laugh at your poverty. We have plenty to eat, because we grow it. While you can't afford to buy groceries.

Wake up people, your being played. I refuse to end up like the farmers in the Ukraine who were sacrificed on the alter of communism and died by the millions. [link to www.lewrockwell.com]

We are not your enemy. We are not the idle rich. We work 7 days a week and many of us don't get health insurance, vacations, days off, or even enough money to pay all of our bills.

We are not your enemy, look to Washington to find the ones that are causing your suffering.
