Re: Ranchers, farmers brace for 'death tax' impact
I remember this old guy who owned a farm near where I lived in Texas. If you came to his farm you didn't have to announce yourself, he wouldn't shoot you. He'd let you wander his lands and look around. Then around dinner time or when it was getting late he'd come find you and say "It's getting late, why don't you stick around for dinner and I'll drive you back to your place after?"

Man always said grace with every meal. Was just him and his wife.

When he died, his wife lost the farm land to the death tax. His kids inherited the house, put her in a home and sold it. The animals were sold wholesale to slaughterhouses.

Damned shame. Isn't just the government killing farms, it's the mentality of the age.

ya know, most of the farmers around here wouldnt let you so much as step foot on their property without shooting you. Thats how greedy these people are. Greedy rich people who think they are entitled to their fathers wealth.

Oh, so you're entitled to it then? Some unknown piece of shit, with no relation at all to these farmers, sitting on his computer in his mommy's basement?

Ranchers, farmers brace for 'death tax' impact
VIDEO: [link to www.foxnews.com]

Rancher Kevin Kester works dawn to dusk, drives a 12-year-old pick-up truck and earns less than a typical bureaucrat in Washington D.C., yet the federal government considers him rich enough to pay the estate tax -- also known as the "death tax." Two decades ago, Kester paid the IRS $2 million when he inherited a 22,000-acre cattle ranch from his grandfather. Come January, the tax burden on his children will be more than $13 million.

Re: Ranchers, farmers brace for 'death tax' impact
I don't understand this whole greedy rich people mentality. My parents were not rich. They worked their butts off to get what the had and lived a very modest lifestyle. Their small ranch (about 60 acres) was valued at 1 million 10 years back and after the appraisal last year was valued at $400,000. The housing market is still tanking. The CD that was left in addition to the property went to the State for inheritance tax and was the money our mother inherited from her aunt back in 1975. She used the interest to help live off of so she could financially survive in her old age. People have to look to how they will survive when they get older and not be totally dependent upon government handouts. This is what being self-sufficient is about. Being responsible for oneself and helping the next generation get a toe-hold in how to maintain themselves when they get older.

The problem is government and the banksters want all the money for themselves and are constantly looking for ways to take it whether it's legal or not. And taking from dead people (parents) what is meant to go to their children is just wrong.
The truth is incontrovertible. Malice may attack it, ignorance may deride it, but in the end, there it is.
Winston Churchill

People like you always bother me.

I used to plant and care for wildflowers in the front of the farm. But why when idiots show up an pick all of them. No-one ever asked. None of the idiots who stole my flowers helped pay for the wildflower seeds, helped weed or care for the wildflowers that I grew. But they were happy to walk illegally onto my property and strip every flower off it's stem.

As for the fish pond. - Are you offering to pay for the stocking, feeding, and maintenance of those fish? If not, then you don't have a right to ask.

If I showed up to your house uninvited, how would you feel if I helped myself to the contents of your fridge, to the clothes in your closet, and to the jewelry in your wife's jewelry box??? Are you a greedy bastard that would deny me things of yours that I want???

poor farmers.

Farmers who dont grow anything, but just deal with cattle making themselves a killing while the average person struggles to buy beef in the store.

Farmers who sit on their land their whole life and never have to get out and get a real job in the real world while their property is used for nothing when they could be growing crops and hiring hundreds of people to harvest those crops by hand.

Poor Farmers who act as if they are more entitled or better than everyone else just because they own huge chunks of land.

What an imbicile. iamwith I DARE you to go work on a farm and ranch. I work Monday-Saturday, 10 hours per day to keep this place going. On Sunday, I still have to feed the calves that are in the feedlot. When it snows, we have to put hay out for the cows. Making a killing??? Do you realize how much it costs to feed animals? About $400 PER HEAD for ONE WINTER. If a cow stops breeding and is 'culled', guess what she brings at market? (Hamburger) $850. You know what a 3 year old bred replacement cow costs? $1850

How the F can you possibly say 'making a killing'? The beef market is a direct result of the policies that this country has elected. If you want cheaper beef, try voting for cheaper diesel, or fewer EPA restrictions.

"Farmers who sit on their land their whole life".... WTF MAN!!! What else do you expect???? You ever tried raising a garden? You ever take a 3 day vacation to go camping or to a family reunion and come back to find you garden infested with pests? The same can happen on a farm. We are married to the land.

I think it might be wise of you to stop and think about the repercussions of your thought process. If you think your produce is expensive now, try imagining what it would cost when you have to increase the price to pay for your concept of "growing crops and hiring hundreds of people to harvest those crops by hand." Are you 12??? Do you not understand???

There is no more farmland. Land is not being developed at the same rate that people of your caliber are breeding. We cannot continue to feed the growing population without witnessing a price increase. IT's supply and demand.

Man...I don't even want to continue this convo. You have me heated. Please, PLEASE do a bit more research before you start waving a skeletal middle finger at those that provide the food that you require to live. THink about it. rockon

For your information I was raised around farms, I know how a farm works and I currently work in the sawmill industry so dont go preaching and whining to me about it. and most of our food does not come from America where farmers claim they grow our food, it comes from Mexico and other countries.

and as far as harvesting crops by hand, it was done for thousands of years and it worked, employing millions of people, how do you think the south operated before the industrial revolution and invention of machinery. With the price of Machinery today and the fuel to run it, it would be just as cost effective to do it by hand. paying for that machinery just gives corporations your money which in turn pays chineese people to make the junk, its not getting back into the local community.

and as far as the EPA goes, just because there is more regulation doesnt mean you pass the costs on to the customers, you can absorb some of that cost instead of being greedy.

are you kidding??? Do you know almost all ranchers are selling off their cattle because the price of feed has gone up so much? I was born and raised on a farm like this and we were far from rich. You're lucky to net $70k a year after paying bills and debts to the bank. The electricity bill for an average farmer that irrigate his land is almost $30k a month! Pull your head out of your ass! You have no clue how this operation works, there are huge overhead associated with a farm.

You are dealing with fucking morons my friend who know nothing about farming and ranching.......... wasting your breath and raising your blood pressure for nothing as they will not change. In fact many of them on here are doing this just to raise your blood pressure because they are in fact people who get off on that sort of thing.

Even people I grew up with think we just sit around on the porch watching the grass grow and counting our dollars. None of them would put the days in that I do. None of them know the cost of operation. I learned long ago to tell them all to piss off and not bother me............. cause they all wanted to buy cheap beef off of me or hunt on my land, while telling me how good I have it........... as I drive along in my 1997 Ford pickup and wonder how in hell I am going to manage to replace my old tractor that is on its last legs.

Take it easy my friend and avoid this stuff. I mostly do as I get enough stress just trying to keep things going without dealing with brain dead urbanites. They think they know everything and how all farmers/ranchers live by reading about the government handouts for farms that are paid not to grow soya and corn............. and think it is like that for everyone across the board.

I must live in a better Farming community then you who post such hate about Farmers and Ranchers! Many of the Farmers/Ranchers here often share some of their yield, invited others to hunt on their land etc.. Most are struggling to keep producing and keep their homes/land!
A lot of them not only work their land but have resorted to having jobs to offset their expenses.. so they not only work 8 to 10 hrs at a job, but, they also work 8 to 10 hrs on their Farms/Ranches!! getting little sleep to boot!
What a lot of you do not realize is that many Farmers/Ranchers have been paid by the Govt. to NOT produce! That way the Govt. can force Americans to buy imported foods!!
If you are trying to put food on the table and your product is losing money or the restriction for selling your product is creating a loss--and the Govt. tells you they will give you X amount to only produce and sell X amount (or a certain way-hybred, altered etc..) or not to produce at all, and then they will let you keep your land/business..

Well its not just the Farmers/Ranchers who fell for this BS...just look around--can you get an AMERICAN/ENGLISH speaking person when you call a company about anything??? Where are your clothes made??? Where are the replacement parts for your vehicles made??? Where do we get our steel, wood, and our food from???

American goods were shitcanned long ago and the producers of those goods were handed a choice and they chose! We are no longer a Country that produces but a country that buys and sits idle while TPTB IV their poison into our bodies and brains! LAZY and USELESS, STUPID F**KS is what most Americans have become! Most have no pride or selfworth!!
and this TAX like ALL TAX and those saying that OTHER PEOPLES HARD EARNED MONIES belongs NOT TO THOSE WHO WORK FOR IT BUT THOSE WHO DO NOTHING IS WHY AMERICA IS A DEAD COUNTRY!!!
I live here, I respect my Farmer/Rancher neighbors, I work side by side with many of them. I see their pain and listen to their hopes.. I understand their fears!
If you think they are lazy and contribute nothing--well KEEP EATING YOUR PLASTIC-CHEMICALLY INFUSED-NON NUTRITIOUS-MICROWAVABLE GUNK!!! Your body will not thank you, the cancer and drug companies, AND the Govt. WILL!!

Land ownership is the difference between being serf and master.

The freedoms that we enjoy (what's left of them) in this country are DIRECTLY related to the ability to own our own land.

If you are so damn jealous, go get yourself some land and you can be master of your own territory. Not some pitiful whining serf. Idiot.

I think the entire purpose of the estate tax and of many other aspects of our system and social engineering, is to prevent the formation of dynasties that would compete with the existing dynasties that are in power.

The Rockefeller Foundation, the Ford Foundation, the Carnegie Foundation, etc, all safely secured their fortunes generations ago. They want to make sure that new, rich and powerful organizations that put their resources to work to shape society, will never spring up in opposition to them.

Re: Ranchers, farmers brace for 'death tax' impact
ya know, most of the farmers around here wouldnt let you so much as step foot on their property without shooting you. Thats how greedy these people are. Greedy rich people who think they are entitled to their fathers wealth.

NO not greedy...just tired of all you city folk coming on our land, mushrooming, stealing gas, killing our animals, etc...people think they can come and go at will on land that is NOT theirs...

Re: Ranchers, farmers brace for 'death tax' impact
poor farmers.

Pity of the Farmers.skull_fing

This is going to make it hard for people to keep their farms without going deep into debt. Farms should be exempt from this nonsense.

THIS

People need to learn to adjust to the new paradigm. Nothing is going to push us off this course we are on because we've been betrayed for decades now and nothing is changing. That means we are going to be the ones who change. Our thoughts and our plans for the future and heirs are no longer going to work the way they have in the past.

Adjust your thinking or get prepared to be royally screwed. You know what's going on now, you have a right to bitch but being stubborn in your thoughts is only going to hurt you and your own families.

I'm just the messenger, don't shoot me, I'm telling you straight out what you need to hear to make better decisions when planning for the future.

THIS^^^^

and I am sorry I get so defensive about all this, BUT some people do not realize there is a HUGE difference between corporate big biz farmers and regular farmers who struggle to make a living...who are fighting the government and all their ridiculous regulations every single day...

Farmers have screwed themselves over the last 50 or so years, so now they must pay the pauper.

Just another way for the gov't to control food sources.. how much is produced, how it's produced and to ultimately starve us to death.
But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
I Corinthians 2:14

God doesn't choose favorites.. They choose HIM

It is not the greatness of my faith that moves mountains but my faith in the greatness of God
