| SilverPatriot User ID: 10518597 11/17/2012 10:03 PM ![]() Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Scary shit. Does anyone know why a cable box would turn on internally when a person enters the room? I have been logging this activity for 2 months. I'm afraid of coming across as paranoid, so I just ignore it, but it did the same thing to my daughter today. Quoting: Watching the world Guess I am just a weirdo. What happens is you place the cable box under a cardboard box does it appear to have an IR sensor light? I will try and see in the morning. If it does what does that mean? I am uncertain however, my thinking is if the cable control box awakens upon movement into the room, n IR (infrared sensor) is involved and if so they can be played with. Blinking lights will continuously, keep the sensor on an IR flashlight pointed into the beam will flood the sensors with light overload. I believe the objective would be to make the data gathered as useless s possible and a cardboard box over the unit would show nothing. |

If constant observation of citizens was occurring, and the 24/7 hour OBS of say, 10 people, was the standard for one observer-full-time-equivalaent (3.5 employees) then the Gov't could employ about 80 million "observers" to watch 310 million citizens. While these features give you unprecedented control over an HDTV, the devices themselves, more similar than ever to a personal computer, may allow hackers or even Samsung to see and hear you and your family, and collect extremely personal data. While Web cameras and Internet connectivity are not new to HDTVs, their complete integration is, and it's the always connected camera and microphones, combined with the option of third-party apps (not to mention Samsung's own software) gives us cause for concern regarding the privacy of TV buyers and their friends and families. continued at [link to www.nbcnews.com] DON'T BUY THEIR STUFF! Many ppl were pretty convinced that this has been going on for a long time, but It's only recently started to gain some awareness. I had never heard about this, didn't know if it was anything that someone shld be concerned about, but it did start me thinking of the 'what-ifs' Call me paronoid if you'd like, but the following day, I went out and bought some black electrical tape. Covered all the cams, and disabled the microphones....'just-in-case'. Took me 5 minutes, and the tape was less than $3.00 yet the peace of mind I gained was priceless.
