I love the whole day. But my daughter has turned into a gourmet cook and feels like our menu has to be upscaled and I'm like 'go for it'.

I like having lots of people around.

I tend to drink a lot that day!

And yes being in tropical weather is weird this time of year - I've been through that.

Re: do any of you have any traditions for turkey day?
In 48 years I've never been away from family on thanksgiving. This year a new tradition will begin. I've decided to pass up on the family I love and will spend it as a volunteer at a homeless shelter. I'm only two pay checks away from being there myself.
I need to give back and happy that I've made this choice.
My family will get me on Christmas, but this year I'm gonna be the giver at Thanksgiving.
I could very well be sitting there next year as a recipient. Thanks Obummer.

Hahaha. I used to hate it as a kid. I would go see family with a bunch of cousins 10 years older than me or 10 years younger and a bunch of old people. Now I am content just eating FANTASTIC food and watching everyone enjoy each others company. I am still sick of the usual, how is your job how are you doing questions that are only nicities but I have started to try and not be so cynical. So all in all Turkey day is good.

Oh and deep fried turkeys are my favorite. A fat american tradition? Sure but you only get to eat fried turkey once a year, and when it comes out it is so juicy!

Re: do any of you have any traditions for turkey day?
We all gather the night before to make the stuffing, pies and cheese ball. We usually order pizza.

Thanksgiving Day we have a bluray or dvd to play. Something somewhat family oriented that came out within 2 wks of turkey day. When I was a kid, the grownups would hang out in the kitchen/dining room drink alcohol and cook. While they were doing that, we would watch monster movies. They used to play King Kong and Godzilla movies on tv

We always have a bowl of after dinner mints. No one eats them now but as kids we would call them power pills. lol

The one tradition we are breaking for the first time this year is kind of depressing. When a member of the family passes away, we serve their favorite dish at thanksgiving. No one eats it; it is made and served in their memory. In the past it was kind of like having them there. Now there are so many missing it is getting depressing seeing all those favorites sitting untouched on the table.

Re: do any of you have any traditions for turkey day?
I get drunk and get on the internet while I make my sister slave away in the kitchen.

That's a tradition, right?
And the LORD spake, saying, "First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin, then shalt thou count to three, no more, no less. Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who being naughty in My sight, shall snuff it." Amen.

If anything it is highly obscene. If you could see with your own eyes the sheer number of birds that have to be slaughtered to support your traditions. To think that it is the basis of your traditions, mass bloodshed in the name of celebration.
