There are so many different types of love as you have described, love for parents, children, family, friends, etc.....but there is no greater love than someone who would lay down there life for another, and this means letting go of all that you have esteemed yourself to be, and realize that it matters not. To come to a place that is in comparison to laying at the feet of the creator and saying do with me what thy shall, but a total respect and knowing that he in command would never hurt you and make you do something that was against you in your nature to do so. A mutual respect and love.
