Fuck you dick. Hostess owners are mega wealthy simply because the workers make little compared to the owners. Yet the owners would have NOTHING w/o the workers. It is a mutually beneficial relationship... or it's supposed to be, but there is a disparaging in equality in most all big business and the SOLE reason any blue collar worker can even somewhat support himself and/or his family is due to the push back by the unions. Those owners likely do not give a fuck about the people and are very likely walking away RICH w/o any debt... meanwhile, the workers are w/o a job, worried about what they will do and where their next meal is going to come from, and surely in debt. |

That is on the ownership and execs. They also negotiated some apparently top heavy pensions with the unions. That is on the execs and the unions. The fact that one hold out union would not be reasonable and agree to the same terms as the other unions to help keep the company afloat is on the union. The union was playing bluff and caused the loss of 18,000 jobs. |

Rayburn said in announcing that the firm had filed a motion with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court to shutter its business. “Hostess Brands will move promptly to lay off most of its 18,500-member workforce and focus on selling its assets to the highest bidders.” Hostess Brands Inc. had earlier warned employees that it would file to unwind its business and sell off assets if plant operations didn't return to normal levels by 5 p.m. Thursday. In announcing its decision, Hostess said its wind down would mean the closure of 33 bakeries, 565 distribution centers, approximately 5,500 delivery routes and 570 bakery outlet stores in the United States. Hostess suspended bakery operations at all its factories and said its stores will remain open for several days to sell already-baked products. In the Chicago area, there were reports of Hostess products flying off the shelves. Rayburn told The Associated Press that there was no buyer waiting in the wings to rescue the company. But without giving details, he said that there has been interest in some of its 30 brands. Experts agreed that it was likely the biggest brands would survive. The Irving, Texas-based company had already reached a contract agreement with its largest union, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters. But thousands of members in its second-biggest union went on strike late last week after rejecting in September a contract offer that cut wages and benefits. Officials for the Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers International Union say the company stopped contributing to workers' pensions last year. unions had there day the biggest concern about unions is public sector unions. they must be removed and stopped. |

Unions said hey..we make your product with quality, and we want to share in your wealth. We have families, and homes, and want retirement and security. The trend now with the influence of KOCH, and the evil ALEC is to crush Unions, and thus have low wages, no bennies, and HUGE profits for the corps. Anonymous Coward User ID: 25231741 United States 11/18/2012 09:50 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | In 1972, while in college, I was paid 7 dollars an hour as a part time night manager at a fast food restaurant. One night recently I had a conversation with the night manager at the local burgerKing. This was the same location and corporation that I worked for back then, but under a different franchise. This full time manager was married with two kids and was only making 9.25 dollars an hour. Unions jobs accounted for over 30 percent of employment back in 1972. Today is is only 7 percent. When you take into account inflation, that 7 dollar an hour salary would be worth 35 dollars an hour today. A few years back, I was terminated from a white collar non union job for a major defense contractor you all would recognize, just a couple of months before being fully invested in their retirement plan. Despite my proficiently rating being close to one, I had no recourse. Had I'd been a technician in the companies union, this would be a much different story. So regardless how you feel about unions, they have always been a hedge against corporate greed. You just have to tract Union strength against wages to realize their necessity. Oops, I should also mention that I was only paying 30 dollars every quarter year for full medical coverage and that was a private plan I maintained until I finished school in 1975. The private plan that my girlfriend and I are currently under costs over 1,000 dollars a month and has close to a thousand dollar deductible and 80 percent coverage. |
