Netanyahu: Israel 'prepared for a significant expansion' of Gaza operations:

"We are exacting a heavy price from Hamas and the (other) terrorist organizations, and IDF is prepared for a significant expansion of its operations," Netanyahu told reporters shortly before the start of a weekly Cabinet meeting in Jerusalem.

The United States and a number of European countries have put the brunt of the blame for the current crisis on Hamas, saying Israel has a right to protect itself. Arab and Muslim nations, meanwhile, have accused Israel of being the aggressor.

Israel pounds Gaza Strip from air and sea:

Israel is continuing its assault on the Gaza Strip for a fifth straight day, bombarding the Palestinian enclave from both the air and sea.

Medical sources said three children were killed on Sunday. One of them was an 18-month-old killed in a air raid east of Bureij refugee camp in central Gaza.

Meanwhile, fighters in Gaza fired rockets into Israel. Two of them, aimed at the commercial hub of Tel Aviv, were shot down by Israel's anti-missile system, police said.

Israel not planning to invade Gaza, Netanyahu ‘assures’ Obama

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu this week gave “private assurances” to U.S. President Barack Obama that the Jewish state was not planning a ground invasion of Gaza, the Daily Beast reported early Sunday, quoting officials.

The report said Netanyahu told Obama on Friday that Israel was not considering a full-scale invasion, unless Hamas escalates rocket fire.

And it's pretty clear that they will, so...

"The army is prepared to significantly expand the operation," Netanyahu said at the start of the weekly cabinet meeting. "The soldiers are ready for any activity that could take place."
