Most EBT users are low-education consumers who understand virtually nothing about nutrition.
EBT . . . means transferring money from the pockets of working taxpayers into the hands of those who, for one reason or another, are either not working at all or are living below the poverty requirements set by the government.

Second of all in Washington state you cannot get food stamps unless you are working at least 20 hours a week, at least as a single adult. If you are not working you need to put in specified hours in a work readiness and job search program.
If you are working you are paying taxes, period. FICA taxes are huge, and how can you not take into account the "employer's contribution" portion of the FICA tax? Whose money is that? The two part tax adds up to 15% of every dollar earned, by every poorest person working any kind of job.
When you are not making much money, 15% is ALL your money. Seriously I have worked so hard for so little for so long, I know that is the amount that would pay for "luxuries" like a haircut and shoes, eyeglasses, etc.
As far as I'm concerned, when I applied for food stamps I was applying to get MY OWN MONEY back. Also I worked for decades and paid taxes for decades, I wrote my own paycheck for years, I know what kind of checks I sent to the Federal government every month when I couldn't afford groceries or even bus fare.
The jab about food stamp recipients being uneducated and ignorant was really low. I have studied nutrition and natural healing for almost my whole life and I have been to a doctor about once since I was a teenager. If I get sick I take care of myself with vitamins, supplements, food and herbs. I have helped other people too.
I am out for SURVIVAL at this point. I am 50 and was out of work for 6 months last year, if that happens again it's a frightening prospect. The work I do now is very physical and depends on my robust good health. There are no paid sick days.
I work two part time jobs, to the limit of my physical ability, and am still eligible to get back all the tax money I pay in the form of food stamps.
Hey if you don't like it that I think of it as MY OWN MONEY, then let's think of it as the million dollars they took from my grandfather's estate when he died, okay? Or from a living relative of mine who told me he paid 250,000 in income tax in a recent year.
Also who really benefits from food stamps? Every worker in every grocery store, and all the production and distribution all the way up the chain. So how can he say working people don't benefit, it goes directly in their pockets!
