| Captain Spaulding User ID: 14886957 11/18/2012 12:28 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | This absolutely breaks my heart as I know FIRST HAND just how CAREING & INTELLIGENT Dolphins really are!! When we lived in Destin, Fla. My family and I would take the weekend and spent it at the beach. One weekend at the Destin Golf and Beach Resort my Dad and Brother in law decided they were going to swim out to the shrimp boat and swim back. My Mom, Sister and I were unaware of their genius idea to do this until we saw them swimming out. They made it to the shrimp boat & were on there way back when this guy comes running down the beach with binoculars & he is frantically screaming trying to find the family the two dummies belong too. Quoting: Little Miss Sunshine My Mom yells at him " its my husband" the man said he saw a shark come in between my dad and brother in law and then he saw another fin beside the shark then two more fins on each side of my dad and brother in law. The dolphins came to PROTECT THEM and the man w/ the binoculars watched as the dolphin's drove the shark away and they swam with the guys as close to shore as they could then turned around and jumped out of the water as if they knew they had just protected those guys!! It was sooo amazing for everyone on that beach that day.Anyone that can hurt such a meek and amazing creature has no soul and i believe will give an accountto God for it. Great story! I scuba dive (military trained and certified underwater search and rescue), amateur surfer, and I've spent a lot of time in the ocean. Everyone knows you're safe when you see dolphins close by. Ever notice how they just can't seem to stop smiling? Because they're alive and they love it every second of it. |

[link to dotearth.blogs.nytimes.com] In the elephant poaching link above, it's made even more poignant by the photo included in the story. Take a look, even if you don't read the article. ALL the elephants in the photo taken for the story, the entire family in fact, were gunned down with machine guns just 24 hours after the photo was taken....sometimes I'm ashamed to be human. Here's the beautiful photo taken of animals for the story. [link to graphics8.nytimes.com] And, then the same animals... just 24 hours after. [link to www.biglife.org] I was always told as a child that my favorite animal, the elephant would be extinct in my lifetime. I never wanted to believe it...but it's becoming reality faster than I had thought. I just can't believe how people fail to realize that the tusks they hold in such high regard will be gone forever... God willing, I will touch and connect with one of these creatures before they are all gone, my heart is breaking.. |

[link to www.popsci.com] [link to www.bbc.com] Robots replace costly US Navy mine-clearance dolphins For decades, science fiction writers and futurologists have predicted a time when wars are fought at the push of a button and Terminator-like robo-soldiers fight in place of humans. While the rise of drone warfare suggests that vision may be starting to come true, it would seem that it will not be humans who are first in line to lose their military commission. “We’re in a period of transition,” explains Captain Frank Linkous, head of the US Navy’s Mine Warfare Branch. After nearly 50 years, he says, the Navy plans to phase out its Sea Mammal Program and retire its pods of dolphins and sea lions that are currently used to help locate – and in some cases destroy – sea mines. “In general, we’re looking to phase out that program beginning in fiscal year 2017,” says Linkous. Swimming into their place is a new generation of robotic mine hunters, he says. But, the shift comes at a critical time. Earlier this year, Iran threatened to mine the Strait of Hormuz, shutting down the critical waterway to commerce. That threat prompted a renewed debate over investment in mine warfare technology, which many naval experts feel has been long neglected. The difficulty of finding and clearing mines is why dolphins capabilities’ are so prized: their use of echolocation to spot objects is the biological equivalent of sonar, making them an ideal tool for hunting mines. "We've got dolphins," retired Admiral Tim Keating, who commanded the US 5th Fleet in Bahrain, told National Public Radio, when asked how the US might respond if Iran makes good on its threats. |

This thread and this post brought tears!!!! Quoting: Captain Spaulding 14886957 And we think that WE'RE the crown of creation? I've watched them at sunrise riding waves with surfers at Rincon Beach, swam with them, and on my birthday, alone with my dog, had them playing and jumping out of the water looking right at us. Making eye contact just a few feet away. Anyone who murders these majestic creatures is pure evil personified and should be removed from this earth without prejudice. ![]() I'm up the coast from you. Have had similar experiences. And I thoroughly agree with your last sentence, too. Same goes for those sub-human pieces of garbage who massacre elephants and rhinos in Africa. It's incumbent upon those of us with voices and consciences to protect those without voices from those without consciences. It's the same thing with pedophiles; these monsters take innocence and destroy it with violence. Can anyone blame Mother Nature/God for trying to wipe us out? We're worse than roaches, and that's on a good day. |

Matter of fact Dolphins were declared almost human a few years.. Its murder! And should be treated as such! That o/r just blew up/the people employed on that rig, ALL appeared to be foreigners, all of them and from the same country, who a few years ago had pretty big radical problems. If we as a human species allow this to go unpunished it is an injustice to the world, to our very life force. |
