this stupid scene in American tv soap operas & films: man kneeling asking marriage
C'mon. Is this serious or a mere cliché? In other countries the woman gotta INSIST or URGE her man to marry her until he agrees. Specially after years of relationship without any commitment from HIS part, so eventually he gives in or not accepting the woman ends the relationship and he gets another woman or she another man. Worst, women who were hetero suddendly become lesbians and start even a more possesive relationship with another woman!

Re: this stupid scene in American tv soap operas & films: man kneeling asking marriage
Nah! I have lived in Canada, USA and several countries in South America and the fact is neither needed any kneeling from men nor dragging women to marriage. The fact is in most cases were women the ones who wanted the marriage thing and stability while men take a whole lotta time to assume the compromise. As a matter of fact there are even psychological inner reasons. Marriage in most cases mean unexpected children coming and married man know instinctively the quality and quantity of sex will diminush after the baby becomes his wife's first ITEM of interest while husband will become the very last interest.

No need to insult South American saying they are dirty just because I disagree with the kneeling of a man setting woman like a pedestal or statue. It's a legitimate question: is that a cliche or for real? Do American men have to undergo that ritual?

Have you realized the amount of Hollywood actors married or having a relationship with women from South America? Leonardo Di Caprio kept a long relationship with Brazilian model, Ben Kingsley, Mathew Mc...
Neither women nor men need to kneel around here. I agree with someone who posted these scenes are created to satisfy American women's IDEA not based upon reality but with the idea the prince will come riding a white horse and build her a castle. This is cruel idea I guess, I think is a brainwashing system which triggers superficial attitude. Women don't need any salvation in the same way men don't need to 'beg' or 'implore' marriage as a gift accepted by her.

Agree I have a Brazilian friend who one day if love to marry her. But she has it good in Rio and I have it good here. But in America once a man starts down that path she always gains power over time....like Macbeth. I find brasilians( middle class) view on marrage more realistic and a better partnership to create a happier life....not to create a happy mental image. Happy lives make happy memories. ..

We know in India the marriages are planned since youth, they are fixed. Muslim countries... well, these fellow sometimes bury their women under the sand, so I really don't care too much about their marriage rituals if they are gonna hide them from the world behind their veils.

I'd like to know Russian way or people from Australia, China, Japan or Europe... do any of these countries practice the man's kneeling or what?

Well, that's exactly what I was trying to say. It's not just a brainwashing system towards women but also the way she would like to dominate and "ride" upon the emmasculated prince who begs her the gift to be stepped upon. Now, if you take into consideration in USA the children independence was always encouraged by the parents and the kids should try to get a job while at school and seek their future by their own (which is good, cutting the navels with parents)as soon as they leave high school or go to the university... then these SONS replace their MOTHERS with their WIVES who will become MOTHERS themselves in short time, creating a whole generation of spoiled women again and again and again.

I am not saying marriage is excelent thing around the world because the rate of divorce is high everywhere, but I am relating this to the system which is set on the tv and movie screens as part of the brainwashing plan.

Look here, you severely out of touch man.

No studio has shot film in Hollywood, CA in over 20 damned years and most left way before that. Calling the media Hollywood is retarded.

Leonardo Di Caprio is not even a blip on the radar in American media today.

Sorry, you may have severe understanding problems. We ain't talking about media itself or even about Hollywood shooting films, we are talking about Hollywood people who are rich enough, travel around the world, have known too many people and would've prefered to remain true to their origins or marry American women. And is interesting in many cases these are not like Britney Spears' marriage or the usual break up after two months but long relationships for Hollywood standard, that is.

And even more, if these relationships were as short as American, it was not the thread either but man's kneeling before a woman in order to ask her to marry him "pleaaaaaaase", with a diamond ring. And, of course, the NEXT scene is the woman saying "nope! I have to think about it" and reject the guy who feels miserable and goes to the shrink.

Cagney's era was better! He would've put the orange on woman's face.

And don't tell me JUST the other countries mistreat woman. It's the American statement which says "a woman, a dog and a walnut tree, the more you beat them the better they be".

I have attended both hindu and muslim weddings here and I loved both.

Hindu has this fire burning in the middle of the stage that both bride and groom walk around 7 times while a priest chants some religious mantras. Then the groom ties a necklas around the bride's neck that she would wear as long as he is alive. Then he puts a red powder in her hair, on her forehead. Then marriage is complete.

Muslim wedding has both bride and groom sitting on chairs while a priest recites a prayer and asks the groom. Do you accept this woman( insert name) as your bride? He asks him 3 times and the groom must say "Yes I accept her" 3 times.

Then he turns to the bride and asks her the same question. "Do you accept this man (insert name) as your groom? He does it 3 times and she has to reply 3 times in yes. If any of them, groom or bride says no once, then marriage is not complete. If they both say yes 3 times then marriage is complete. Then they sign the papers with their names.

Both wedding ceremonies were filled with music and dance. I had fun at both. Was a very interesting experience to watch. After the ceremony there's food and dance all night long.

My husband begged me for 2 years to marry him.
I even requested he go to my Dad, man to man to ask for permission to become his son-in-law.
He did get down one one knee to properly ask about 2 months before we got married on Valentine's day in a private ceremony, not the crappy mass weddings that go on that day.

I feel sad that you only know sex without real devotion and love and most of all romance.

We have been married happily over 25 years and we even still date each other too! We are best friends too and are rarely ever seen without the other.

I'm an American woman and I hate soap operas!
I call it "lowIQ" TV.
OF course I can't stand real life people that live life like they are in a soap opera too, I have 2 older sisters that back stab, gossip and spend their days in real soap opera lives. I try to stay completely away from them.

When they call me with some drama crap or gossip I tell them I don't want that soap opera crap in my life.

Of course a good. loving and romantic man is very sweet in real life.

It's sort of cruel to the men too, when a large percentage of the women start expecting that.

But then the men react by looking outside the country and the women have to face reality, either change or be alone.

By the time the accept reality, though, their fertility is gone. Our country is fucked up by this disease of my brothers and sisters, the white people. Other races don't seem to get dragged into this meme.

Re: this stupid scene in American tv soap operas & films: man kneeling asking marriage
Perhaps the whole brainwashing spoiled princess was created to trigger divorce and henceforth the collapse of marriage. In such way homosexuality is promoted because people wanna have sex and if they don't find a partner among the opposite sex they are urged to seek in their own sex. Add to this the media campaign in which we see sissy manerism 24 hours a day. So, that female enhanced characteristic mimic by gays becomes "normal" pattern. Someone who impersonates the gestures, manerism, dress, hairdress and even the voice of a woman WHO IS NOT is making a 24 hours a day caricature. It's not normal but since is promoted a million times it "becomes" a normal anormality until nobody is shocked no more.

Hence when a woman becomes aware of her natural instinct of mothership was delayed and delayed (due to studies or job or whatever), then she also finds she couldn't marry a man either. Yet, she still wants that baby. So, what was the unnatural solution in our modern society? They get the sperm of an unknown and beget a baby with a couple of lesbian mommies or a couple of gay fathers. Hence new generations of people who have lost the very identity of what is being a man or a woman. It's a lie to think the difference is just physical. It's psychological as well. The fact women can imitate the masculine sexual aggresivity doesn't mean it happens in all of them nor that is normal. Something that becomes common doesn't mean it has to be normal.

Then the movie industry hires actors who don't look like John Wayne or Robert Mitchum, Heston, Lancaster, Douglas. Now they hire actors with androgynous look, if they are young, better.

Of course, the "benefits" of a homosexual society could mean no more fertile sperms and decreasing worldwide population.
