theres was/is this industrial pk in hauppauge.

and the unions were trying to organize them.

there was this open house at a hotel - paid for by the factories.

they tried to explain the detriments to the workers

ex:

we pay you a decent wage
healthcare is expensive (and many paid in full the prems at the time - not every bus offered HC tho)
you get vacation, sick, and retirement (some did w/o your contributions)
you got 2 15 min breaks and 30 min lunch
annual raises

add it up...youre actually making XXX amount.

we could take all that away and you can pay your own way.

unions are extortionists.

take a good look at history, the corruption involved .......
the unions reap the benefits - not you. youre just the dumb schmuck who pays them.

Fuck Hostess. And good for their employees refusing to take the 8% pay cut. I would do the same, union or not. The economy may be poor, but I would lose my job before I let an employer who BLEW HIS MONEY, go and take it out on me, the employee, via pay cuts.

There are jobs if you want to work. Sure, may not be in your field, or of the same pay, but there are jobs out there. In the short term I could live with not having my "dream job" to give my employer a big "FUCK YOU" when they bankrupted their selves and want to take it out on me.

It's hard to imagine a company with $2.5 Billion (with a B) in yearly sales couldn't keep its head above water.

reasonably speaking - there couldve been a global meetup to discuss....ALL employees - to include mgmt - to take said cut and....look for other areas to meet some of that cost, such as perhaps finding a cheaper HC policy -

even - trying a 35 hour work week

Most of these businesses have little choice either to comply with Unions or close shop. Unions have a lot of incentive to be aggressive because of all the Federal and State help and benefits they get if they lose like to Hostess. They have a big golden parachute to save them.

Important point here....HIS MONEY. Employer's money. He can do what ever the fuck he wants with it, including blowing it. And yes, the employees do have to pay the price for what an employer does with the company finances, but it is the company's to do whatever with.

Companies blow money all the time thru bad decisions, malfeasance, etc. That's business. You, as an employee, do NOT have the right to that job, or that pay and benefits.

I'll bet that when the company was doing well, that the unions were clamoring for raises and benefits, but in lean times, for whatever reason, arent willing to give back.

And by the way I did take accounting in college, and I have worked for a major corporation for over 20 years so I know a little about how these things work. What I found hard to imagine is that they couldn't find any viable way to restructure to improve the bottom line with sales numbers like that.
