That is bullshit, I have been employed by a union electrical contractor for close to 20years and the owner lacks for nothing and I have made a great wage and built a very nice retirement during those years.......far more than any non-union electrician in my state!
I pay my dues and they leave me alone, I don't go to their meetings or do any other so called "brotherhood" BS. So if you want to make less and have no future then by all means never join a union.

i was a USgovt employee - yes i was union 20+ yrs. had no fuckin clue as a kid - as to their history, ties, agendas, change agents, educational lineage - dude...i was totally clueless.
i was not only an 'area rep'....i took grievances/cases to national arbitration & the NLRB (national labor relations board)
it was 6 mos before i "retired"....where something came across my desk - that alerted me, got my full attention.
it made me realize, that everything 'we' thought/been told - was predicated on a lie. i didnt want to be a tool anymore.
i bowed out.
