So, you haven't noticed that gasoline is at $3.50 per gallon lately and how that alone has effected companies and that ObamaCare is going to bankrupt more companies. I guess you can't understand that for this company, they knew that they couldn't sustain under the current economics conditions.

Take it from someone who has been laid off and BEEN THERE -- rarely does anyone qualify for all of that stuff!

After being laid off, I got a whopping $240 per week to cover all expenses plus $4 per week (a jar of pickles) in food stamps. I do not qualify for section 8 but wouldn't want to go there (druggies, wackos, etc.) anyway. I do have an "Obamaphone" but only because of the "giant" food stamp award. I don't qualify for or receive any of that stuff you listed. I have no health insurance, no vehicle, etc. I'm not whining, just saying. Maybe my skin is the wrong color to receive benefits? (I'm white)

For the past 9 months (2 semesters), I have been in college retraining for a new career (4.0 GPA) since my industry has gone to INDIA. Now the UE extension will be cut off at the end of the year, and I have no idea how I will survive and pay for school. The people who were laid off before me received UE benefits for as long as 3 years!

Not everyone who receives assistance is some n'er-do-well. This is the first time EVER I have received any help. I have worked since I was 16, and for many years I have worked 2 or even 3 jobs. My tax dollars have certainly gone into the system.

I'm just tired of people ragging on those who are temporarily down on their luck. Look around -- you KNOW this economy sucks, and you KNOW our jobs are going overseas. Don't fall into the "class warfare" trap TPTB want you in and attack your fellow citizens. It's exactly what TPTB want.

Why Hostess blaming labor for bankruptcy smells like bullshit

From Wiki we see that this isn’t Hostess’s first bankruptcy. In fact, it’s restructured itself about once or twice per decade since the 1970′s –going private, going public, merging with other bakery companies, etc. And that’s not even counting the 2004 bankruptcy in which the company was purchased by a vulture capital firm on borrowed money. From Wiki:

...Let’s take a look at that Wiki quote on Hostess’s 2004 bankruptcy again:

So, after their 2004 bankruptcy Hostess was owned by a financial firm with outstanding loans. Now, let’s check the Hostess company revenue from that same Wiki article, “$2.798 billion (2008)” — for the record, that’s a “b.” And Yahoo finance states their revenue from 2011 at $2.5 billion.

The Hostess Company itself says that its main debt obligations are to former union employee’s pensions, but The New York Times lists its debt as:

[The company has more than $850 million of secured debt outstanding. It has more than $180 million in accrued workers compensation liabilities. Another $50 million to $60 million is outstanding to trade creditors, plus $36 million in lease obligations. And now it is going to lay a $75 million debtor-in-possession loan on top of that to provide additional cash.

The New York Times notes something else is fishy with this deal:

Turns out that Hostess has no treasury department. It apparently doesn’t have anyone who can perform treasury functions at all.

The company has asked the bankruptcy court for permission to hire FTI Consulting to do the work. Apparently Hostess does not have much of a finance department either, since FTI is also providing employees for that department.

If approved, FTI will provide three people to staff Hostess’ treasury department. The interim treasurer gets monthly fees that work out to an annual salary of $780,000. His two deputies get $660,000 per year, each.

The finance department group gets paid hourly rates that top out at $895 per hour.

It wouldn’t surprise me if FTI Consulting and Ripplewood (the vultures that own Hostess) have some connection in the past –some people who had worked for both companies and know where the money comes from during a bankruptcy dismantling. If I could find that, it would almost seem like a corporate plot to load Hostess with investor debt, bankrupt it, then pay themselves consulting fees the whole time.
