Deer Hunting Issue
I know some of you here don't believe in hunting, well, whatever. I am not going to debate the merits of one of my passions.

Now, for my issue. My asshole buddy sent me a pic this morning of a nice, healthy looking six point that he killed. By the teeth, he said it looked to be about 4, maybe 5.

Well, I have not even hunted this year for various reasons. Last year I culled two doe from the far southeast part of my own land. (I own three hundred and lease two hundred. From my northern pasture to my southern is .9 miles. Just for perspective)

Both of these doe were older, one had a noticeable limp.

Well, as I do every year, I get hot under the collar because dicks like my friend take 'trophy' bucks that have strong genetics.

Of course, he uses the old, "it makes room for the younger bucks" horse shit. However, I know from biology courses and from literature I have read that this is bullshit that he is being fed by the massive bullshit hunting industry.

They are making the deer population weaker not stronger! And it really pisses me off! Hunting for me, is spiritual. It's a reminder of where we came from, of our more primal side, the ways of our ancestors.

For these bloated pricks, I think it is more about sitting in a stand to kill some poor deer from 106 yards with a scoped Remington!

Re: Deer Hunting Issue
This is why here in Idaho we have some units that are two point only........those units typically produce trophy bucks.

You can only shoot a big buck if you draw on a controlled hunt tag......

Re: Deer Hunting Issue
i sit on the fence on this one. i agree to a point about culling the least desirable genetics, but a younger healthier specimen is less likely to harbor qualities that make it less "freezer-worthy". back when i hunted, i usually went for "spikes" for meat quality above all else. never took a trophy, or desired to. that being said, if your only criteria is a trophy, i do agree the old mossbacks are the racks you should be bagging. but in my case, it's kind of like a camaro guy critiquing a honda.
