Currently Microsoft isn't commenting on the subject, but an article published by USA Today points to the possibility. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 20703248 [link to www.tomshardware.com] What a total flop and failure. Windows 8 sucks. Why was Microsoft in such a hurry to replace Windows 7? Windows 7 actually works and is not a pile of shit like Vista. Vista has become the Windows ME of the modern age. The only operating systems that Windows had that actually were worth a shit are Windows 95/98, Windows XP SP3, and Windows 7. When Windows XP first came out it was a piece of shit, too. By SP3, almost the entire OS had been reprogrammed. Windows ME was a total disaster. At times, not even my Networking and Telecomm professor in college could get it to work right during class demonstrations. Windows Vista was another useless OS that no one wanted. It was harder to operate than its predecessor XP and had no better features. Finally, they get a decent level of success with Windows 7 and they replace it with a worthless pile of shit, Windows 8. Microsoft is a total joke now. |

At $40 a pop, it's a good deal. Agree, they could have left the start button on the desktop. Stardock has a desktop start menu add-on for $5. I run FreeBSD 9.0 and switching the actual computer over to Windows 8 would be like giving up a custom sportscar for a Yugo...but I would like to test it and it's always nice to be able to check development work on it. |

I work at a computer shop and knew that I would be seeing windows 8 pc's shortly so I installed a copy in virtual box. It's awful. It is probably an excellent tablet OS but it's a horrible desktop OS. So I downloaded a freeware start bar replacement and all of a sudden I had access to traditional components such as control panel and the like. That makes it okay. I will however most likely be using Windows 7 for a few more years. |

Try Zorin. There is a learning curve but it's the most Windows 7 like version of Linux I have ever seen. I installed it on my wife's netbook a couple months ago and she has had little to complain about. |
