I don't know how some working on claims for over ten or twenty years are making it. I for example went to college and then went to the Army and do to some things that happened in the Army lost my CAREER both as a soldier and forever as a civilian. Ten years and I am STILL waiting to see if I'll either get surgery or help as they keep promising vocational rehabilitation, yet my hands are useless (I WAS A MUSICIAN)in most jobs if I have to grab, push, pull, lift or in general use my wrists or fingers. I hope it doesn't sound like I am complaining, but hard to be thankful when I have not been able to find work (even Burger King only lasted two days as I couldn't hold the buns or meat(I am not being funny here) and kept dropping them constantly. I had a job as a phlebotomist for two weeks and had to quit as the CONSTANT repetitive motion put my wrist, arms, fingers and shoulders/neck in severe pain and I "COULD" have killed someone if I had a sharp pain while using a needle in someone. It DOES happen (death and permanent loss from needles hitting the wrong area). My point is, thankful is relative and choices are everything, but when thrown away after not being ACTIVE DUTY it is hard to thank anyone. Eating at the missions and not knowing if we'll be homeless again and again gets to be pretty old. I'll be thankful when they can FIX me or at least help me find a job that I can actually do without furthering my service-connected disability. Just another perspective. P.S. I lost everything when I lost my career...wife, child, career as civilian and military. HOWEVER, still keeping my head up and THANKFUL for those at least TRYING to help (I plan to return the favor as/when I can of course). |

I didn't mean they are dead of course (although we did lose our first child while both in college). It was a rough time though. Worst part is still being connected to so many in my former industry and really wishing and/or missing that I could still do it. Life is what you make of the experiences I suppose. ;-) |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 25998001 Well, I think its the vets who should be thanking us taxpayers, sweating at our jobs and paying taxes so they can have an income. A lot of people in the military are there because they can't find a job anywhere else, or they have to go because they are in trouble with the law. Some are there too because they want to be there, I will agree to that. But As I was saying, I think the members of the military should be thanking each of us every day, for providing the taxes that pay for everything they have! So have terrorists/China/Russia/Iran/Whatever ... landed in your backyard ... raped and murdered your family yet ? You're fucking welcome ![]() |
