I knew a family with 2 kids 10 years ago. He 50 yo from Iran, she was 30(?) Armenian. They had been given money for rent, paid child care, medical and free english classes and food. They didn't work since even if one of them got a job they would loose all benefits. It was very strange it was almost as the government didn't want them to work
So they just stayed home for a few years, eventually she found part time job and he work illegally so they were collecting all of the benefits + part time job+ full time job

Those Pilgrims WORKED hard to build this country; and their descendants FOUGHT and risked their lives for our freedom and national security. There was nothing at all lazy or dishonest about those Pilgrims. And they didn't live lavish lifestyles. They spent 6-12 weeks at sea, just getting here. In the beginning, the Pilgrims were the ones who got ~along with the Indians (remember, the First Thanksgiving?). Relations with the Native tribes only deteriorated when certain European Governments and Corporations (ie, the Dutch, English, Spanish and French) interfered, for the purpose of CAPITALIZING off of them. The Pilgrims were good and wise people.

How does any entitlement program add to our economy? The taxpayers foot the bill for the burdens to society, those very same burdens purchase goods and services so taxpayer money gets redistributed to corporations.

The Dutch West Indies Trading Company (ie Corporation) bought Manhattan Island from a tribe, for a few trinkets and cloth. Spanish Conquistadors paid nothing for what they claimed -- they just exterminated the Natives for it, whenever necessary (when they couldn't get their cooperation and free slave labor).

My English 7th g-grandfather and his Dutch brother-in-law (both Puritans) bought a piece of Long Island from a couple of Chiefs for I'm sure a fair price. Then later (after my ancestors had already sold their LI homes and moved to New Jersey), England literally stole all of "New Netherlands" by strong-armed robbery, changing the name to New York and forcing the original settlers to pay more money for what they already owned.

The Pilgrims had nothing to do with what the Governments and Corporations were doing (including selling arms to Natives, in trade for animal pelts). The Pilgrims were peacefully anti-Government, anti-Corporations, and most were anti-slavery (Britain pushed slavery in the Southern Colonies and the Caribbean, where cash crops could be grown by British Loyalists, funding Britain's Empire). They did sell Indians liquor though, because they felt it would have been cruel and inhumane to deny them what they considered to be medicine.

The Pilgrims taught their religious beliefs to Indians, too; but not by force. And they went out of their way to provide them with Bible texts in Native languages.

So, the Pilgrims tried to be a force for good in this land, unlike some others. They always tried very hard to be just and fair. They even threw out ~hundreds of unjust, oppressive English laws, refusing to enforce them in the Colonies. That was all before the Revolution.

That's all fine and good to know. Had a few family progenitors on the Mayflower myself. Also had a few that got trinkets.

We have a major issue here where some Africans (read Nigerians, not all Africans) are basically scamming the system, American equivalent would be 1 person having 7 social security numbers, and claiming benefits on all of them.

I work and pay my taxes, I don't mind that my tax helps sick people get treatment or help those who've lost their jobs and are trying to get back to work, but I'll not have my taxes pay for junkies or scammers!
