Bullet-proof clothing - A paper-thin material to stop bullets

Even if the bullets can't penetrate the clothing, what's to stop the clothing from penetrating the wearer?

Will it don't have to go into you to kill you. If a bullet hits you in the arm, leg or chest the impact can brack and miss crap up fast.

They should work on ways to disperse the kinetic impact as well to help with the blunt force trauma.

Researchers need to know precisely why those nanolayers are so good at dissipating energy.

What if there was a bite proof layer of clothing you could wear when the zombie apocalypse comes? ... Will stop human teeth from penetrating the wearer's skin

Would still penetrate and lead to bleeding .. but there would be no contact between zed and you.

This material is just some super-strong condom .. for bite and bullet protection it still needs something below to distribute the energy over a big area.

Big calibers still liquify intestines even if the bullets do no penetrate the vests

Even if no good for vests, I can think of about a thousand applications for a lightweight thin material that can take a frigging bullet.

Id imagine creating a layer of nanomaterials that could absorb shock is possible, but would be an extremely daunting task, since it would have to be layers and layers of springlike nanostructures.

The "gel" layer probably has something to do with dispersing shock.

There is a liquid flexible armour that goes hard where and when a bullet strikes, a layer of this over the top sounds useful.

Yeah, and that's ONLY...IF you're lucky. ther impact alone can kill you...speed&power. People die every year from just getting punched by someone! All this "material" is going to do is leave a "Less-messy" CORPSE!

To help you all understand how this material works so that you may wrap your mind around this (no pun intended).
This nano-material is designed to take the impact of the projectile and focalize it into a very tiny area, because of this the shockwave is dissipated over the layers of the material thereby making the impact millions of times less effective. The nano-tubes have formation memory and fill in around the projectile capturing it in its original position.
