In Port Orchard, Kitsap County, about five blocks of downtown streets were closed under about a foot of water Monday morning, due to the combination of rain and a high tide.

“When we have super high tides and heavy rains, our drains just can’t handle it,” said Mayor Tim Matthes, who said the waters closed a section of Bay Street near City Hall. Some merchants stacked sandbags in front of their doors, and at least one reported getting water inside his business, Matthes said.

A state trooper in Pacific County had a narrow escape after he got out of his car at one of several mudslides in the area, and his patrol car was hit both by a falling tree and another vehicle on Highway 101

The National Weather Service has issued a flood advisory warning for Kitsap and several other Western Washington Counties, including King, Jefferson, Clallam, Mason, Thurston, Island, Lewis, Snohomish, Pierce, and Grays Harbor. Moderate to heavy rainfall is expected to continue in our area through Thanksgiving week, tapering off early next week.

According to the National Weather Service, “Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause elevated levels on small creeks and streams and ponding of water in urban areas, highways, streets, underpasses,” intersections, and other low-lying areas where leaves and other debris tend to gather and block drains.

Public Information Officer at Kitsap County Emergency Management Susan May told me this morning there are numerous reports of flooded basements.

Sandbags are available to Bainbridge citizens at the Bucklin Hill Fire Station, across from Hyla Middle School. They are located on pallets covered by a tarp, and fire fighters there are happy to help citizens who need them load them into their cars.

I appreciate the information that the OP has provided. Now if the temp drops & this turns to snow that would be real interesting. As I recall Portland & such is not used to large snow fall amounts.

power is out in queen anne area down by the fremont bridge. there's a tree down on florentia st w between 2nd and 3rd ave. this is just the beginning i think. at least i got to go home from work :)

Meanwhile, a mudslide carried a tree into a Washington State Patrol trooper's car and another vehicle, causing both to start burning.

The trooper, who crawled out of his car and escaped uninjured, was able to free the driver of the other car. She was left with a sore neck.

In no way were those two things related.

Not bad here yet, in SW Washington, Clark County, about 10 miles north of Portland, OR. Rain steady, coming from Se, hitting ground at about 17 degree angle. Mild, continual gusty winds.

The man who died was an elk hunter who was killed when a tree fell on his tent. Efforts to save him by others nearby were not successful."

Well, I live on the Southern Oregon coast and we ARE having 100mph gusts. I hate it! It's so scary! My neighbor's chimney blew off...

I'm in the basement with earplugs to keep some of the noise down. But the whole house is shaking.... Been counting the hours until tonight when the winds go down to 25mph....
