Survey, Do you think children under the age of 18 should be tried as adults?

Really need help on this one guys its part of my assignment, please.

i think people trying to try them as adults should be locked up in a physch ward, never to engage in public service again.
they are heartless cowards, using force to keep their paycheck rolling in.
the numbers show america has more people in prison (95% non violent and victimless crimes) than china/russia combined.
if a child is headed down the wrong road we should have safety nets to catch them, we don't "not really" america has been brainwashed into favoring punishment over compassion, understanding, and forgiveness.
rehabilitation has been through its policy failed us as well, but this is by design.

we are being desensitized to compassion, walking away from God if you will. We should never give up on anyone, we should strive to rebuild communities, how many people know their neighbors, we are all sitting in houses next to strangers. it used to be a whole town knew who was who.
i say there needs to be a push far towards actively engaging in forgiveness, and understanding, and molding good moral values. however how can the children learn good morals if those coming before them have none.

I would say older teens should be tried as adults for murder.

I'm on the fence about the younger ones. Part of me says yes and the other part says no. I think the crime should be the deciding factor. Was it intentional? How brutal was it?

I just think some people are born with a screw loose, you can see it even when they're younger and you know that no matter how old they get they're not going to change.

I don't know, you hear about these cases all the time where a 15-16 yr old either alone or with friends will lure someone away, do the most horrendous things to the person and will then murder them, dump them somewhere. I don't think a person like that should be allowed to live no matter their age. Just my opinion. I know a lot of people would say otherwise.

I think it depends on the crime... if it was premeditated murder, rape and like things, then yes, they should be tried as an adult... but if it's just something tupid like a drug related charge the First Time, no I don't think that they should be tried as an adult. I remember there was a story a couple of years ago, where 2 brothers that were as evil as they come (killing animals, throwing rocks at thouses and people, etc...), the parents and courts could do nothing to keep those 2 boys in line, getting in to "trouble" didn't fase those 2, but then they went and tortured a little boy to death, and then finally were tried as adults and should serve I believe life behind bars. They were truly evil little boys, I think one was 10 and the other like 12. Their whole town was relieved when the 2 were put behind bars.

I do not. Age 18 is probably a time in our lives we are the dumbest we'll ever be, but we're expected to make good judgements in major areas of our life. Most still live at home at this age, and haven't even experienced life.

Everyone matures differently and at different times. The difference between age 18 and 28, is astounding.

It depends on the nature and circumstances of the crime, past history, medical and mental health history - is this person a sociopath or redeemable.

i don't give a shit if a 5 year old is stealing a candy bar. the little fuck is a criminal piece of shit and should be tried as an adult.

When he spends a few weeks in adult prison I guarantee he won't want to steal anymore, granted he survives. But they have protective custody now so he would be fine.

If a 3 year old hits another 3 year old, he should be tried for assault. You would try an adult so why not this little punk?

Kids under 18 should be given help and not put in jail.

Unless they kill someone or try to. Then they need to be locked up but not in jail until they are 18.

For serious stuff like murder, older teens should be tried like adults. No need to give the young psychopaths a get out of jail free card.

But for anything less serious, we should treat them like children and work to rehabilitate them. Many young criminals come from nasty homes, and need a chance to learn to live a better life.

so a kid that turns 18 in a few weeks shouldn't be punished but given 'help', but a kid who just turned 18 magically knows better and should be punished?
