The mediation will begin on Tuesday. This means we have may Twinkies back on the shelves by the end of the week! I'm laughing so hard at all the morons who bought 30 boxes of Twinkies at the store. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 22441207 Greedy fuckers they are ain't they? yeah, but they see that Hostess was willing to call their bluff and just close up shop. Those fuckers are probably begging for a chance to go back to work with ONLY an 8 percent paycut. I say good on Hostess. Don't negotiate with terrorists. They should go in and say the 8% deal is on the table for 5 minutes, and if they don't accept during that time, it goes to a 15% paycut. motherfuckers. |

Needs to be sold and they will have to use non-union workers before I spend a dime on hostess products. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 24473407 As a union worker I really don't give a rat's ass what you think dipshit! I bust my ass on a dock all day usually 10 hr days I pay my union dues which isn't much considering I would be making $10 an hr somewhere else on a non union dock. I could care less what you dipshits think about me and my union I am very pleased with the union after 14 yrs on the job. Marathon March |

Quoting: Marathon March If you'd be making $10 on a non-union dock, then that's the true going rate for your labor, and that's what you really should be making. The union has inflated and created unrealistic wages which, in addition to burdening the company, ultimately burden the consumer. And while it's nice you get to make so much more, you true value is only $10 an hour. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 7061022 United States 11/19/2012 06:11 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I don't understand why people don't think they deserve a decent wage. Can someone explain this. You get upset if a union worker makes $14 and claim it burdens the company. If so, then that company does need to go out of business and make way for a new company that can turn a profit. There is something wrong with their business model, people don't want twinkies. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 11330901 United States 11/19/2012 06:23 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Can someone explain this. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 7061022 You get upset if a union worker makes $14 and claim it burdens the company. Personally, I don't care, good for him. What I'm saying is that the "decent wage" may not be the true wage or the value of the labor being performed. Suppose the teacher's union decided, "for their labor, all teachers should be paid ONE MILLION dollars a year." As silly as it sounds, think about it for a moment. You know teachers work hard. Yes, they should get a decent wage. But nothing a teacher does is worth ONE MILLION dollars a year...it's an unrealistic wage and not worth the value of what the teacher is doing. The same is true with worker's unions. To say, "hey, the union is awsome, I'm getting paid so much more," ... it's like, you're decent wage isn't coming from the job you're performing, but you're getting paid more to do less. Your union prevents more willing and able workers from getting a job, keeps lazy employees in place, and pay people more money for work they're not really doing. That is, they work, but the value of their work is less than what they're getting paid for. They're overpaid basically. |

And while it's nice you get to make so much more, you true value is only $10 an hour. I guarantee you that I work harder than you do and my effort is worth every bit of pay that I receive. There are docks that start at 11.50 not 10 but you get my meaning. Anyway I believe that the unions are a godsend to the common guy. How can you make it on 11.50 an hr? Well you can't not today you can't maybe some of you Nimrods could back in the 90's but not now especially on the east coast. I was in a union back in the early 80's it was the ironworkers union and the rich folks pretty much fucked that up as well for us. And struggled until I landed a sales job went back to vocational school and then landed a bench technician job but out of all of those jobs between union jobs the union has treated me better than the rest. Yes I'm old but strong as a horse and believe me when I tell you there is more to life than trying to earn as much as possible. I earn enough for a small retirement and to help family out when necessary. There are those of us out here that choose not to start a business or spend our every waking hour trying to hustle money. Some of us spend time with our loved ones or doing something like fishing or going hunting which I love to do. Anyway you wouldn't be making a minimum wage currently if it wasn't for unions! Quoting: Marathon March Funny, I've never worked a union job in my life, yet when I have previously negotiated my salary with my prospective employers, I usually got exactly what I wanted. Those times when I didn't it was because they needed to start me about a buck less an hour than what I wanted, and promised that the automatic pay raises would for the first 90 days would get it the rest of the way, which it did. My main experience with unions was the teamsters union at the last place I worked. Some, not all, but some were good workers. Otherwise the place was drug infested and the people would sabotage the machines whenever they wanted extra breaks. I wasn't union there either, and I got much better salary and benefits. Explain that, if you would. |
