I think I was in 5th grade when y2k was going on. I don't recall any of my teachers ever talking about collapse or something negative with the new year. I remember hearing about it from MSM and news at the time, but I imagine hearing it from a respected teacher would probably have freaked me out

Yea but the kid came home crying, and Grandma OP had to deal with it because a teacher said something which made the kid think the world is ending. Poor judgement on the teacher's part - maybe he was kidding, but maybe he wasn't sensitive to the fact that some kids might take it to heart and really be scared by it.

Plus you know how kids are, they hear something from a teacher, then they talk among themselves, some probably have heard of the 2012 phenomenon from home or tv, so they make the situation even worse among themseleve.

Really though, why would a teacher even mention something like that? What part of the curriculm involves scaring kids into believing there may not be a future for them?

I understand fun and games and keeping up with current trends and news, but this is fear mongering.

Maybe the world will end. It's not the teachers responsibility to tell them that, especially since the claim is based on prophecies.

Nah. If this is a legitimate concern thats depressing the poor kid, the school has a right to know and talk to that teacher.

Kids should be taught at home about this shit. They should already know beforehand that anything they hear outside of their homes is suspect.

If they're coming home from school crying about this sort of thing then someone hasn't been doing a good job at parenting.

Yeah, and I get irritated when teachers talk amongst themselves in front of the kids as if they can't hear them. Talking about the rapture, or other scary shit. My kids have come home several times anxious, thinking we were all going to die. Now they are in a small private school, which I can say is a hell of a lot better than public.

Kids can't deal very well with this and its not up to the teachers its up to the parents to say something or not say something.
