No. Not always. I wouldn't think to sit my kids down and say, ok, let us discuss the rapture, or Harold camping saying at 6pm good Christians would start disappearing off the earth. My neighbors husband was talking about my little ones once...not nice stuff... His girls went back and told my kids. When I discussed with my friend I told her that we don't ever talk about family, friends, etc in front of the kids. She said, wow, I didn't look at it that way. We always do. That must be why they don't like going to their grandparents house. Duh. That's a no brainer.

Yes but every situation is different. My grandchildren's mother died one year ago. My son does the best he can. Those kids have already seen pain in their little lives that is unimaginable.

I've had to deal with stuff like this with small children.

Here's my tactic. The Mayan believed that the gods created stick people, cloud people, mud people, etc and then destroyed them after a certain amount of time. Then the gods created corn people and will destroy them in December.

Ask your grand children if they are made out of corn, because only corn people will be destroyed.

(Not a good idea to teach them that they are what they eat and then feed them lots of corn syrup before explaining this.)

It isn't just the Mayan Calendar and it doesn't say anything about the end of the world.

It is many, many cultures and they speak of a changing of the age, a transition or a cleansing.

You can't think of what is to happen as a giant disaster, done in a day.

There has already been a world in decline and it is becoming faster and faster.

December 21, 2012 may well be the day in which the signs of change become too difficult for people to ignore but it doesn't mean the world will be destroyed.

Their predictions involved massive social and civil upheavals on a global scale because history has shown that each time a Mayan "baktun" has ended, something bad happened somewhere the world. When the last "baktun" ended, the Spanish Conquistadors were invading Central America and waging war against the Mayan people, whose own civilization was nearing an economic collapse due to an unsustainable population growth. After that, their civilization was pretty much destroyed and ended. Thus their last "baktun" just happened to be the current 13th Baktun which ends in December 2012. How many weapons have you shown them? How many tonnes of water do you have stored? What do your food stores look like?
