Re: Just Bought My First Rifle... What Do You Think???
AR type rifles are certainly one way to go. There are many followers and die-hard fans. That being said I am not one of them.

AR rifles are too sensitive for my liking, sure they are lighter, AND more accurate then other options, but I want a gun that goes BANG, every-time I pull the trigger. In my experience my mini-14 does this, and AR type rifles I have owned in the past do not. If I needed to shoot longer distance I would go with a bolt-action, but for short to medium ranges, 150-200 meters, the mini-14 is what I grab the most because I know it will work. Congratulation on your weapon, keep that bitch clean and I'm sure she'll be good to you.

Nice, OP.

It's also about the accessories.

In the mean time, shoot it for a while, get to know it better about what you like and what you don't like, then trade it for another when you have a better idea on what works for you.

Bushmaster BCWA2F16M4 223 BAY/FLS/30RD

One of Bushmaster's most popular carbine models, the M4 type features a distinctive military barrel profile and six position telescoping buttstock - great for 3 Gun Match shooting, home defense and law enforcement use. The Bushmaster A2 Type Patrolman's Carbines are modeled after the M4 Type Carbines, but with additional barrel length to make them legal for sale to individual officers (semi-automatic configuration with 16" barrel). The 5.56mm/.223 Rem. caliber 16" barrel is chrome lined in both bore and chamber for long wear life and ease of maintenance. For control of muzzle flash and muzzle rise in rapid fire, a birdcage type suppressor is factory installed. A mil. spec. manganese phosphate outer coating insures protection against corrosion or rust on the barrel and all critical steel parts of the weapon. On the A2 Type - with fixed carry handle, adjustment range is from from 300 to 800 meters (1 Minute of Adjustment elevation and 1/2 M.o.A. windage).

I have a little experience with the M4 and it's older cousin the M16A1. Plenty of ammo, accy's and the Bushmaster is a fine weapon. Great choice.

I don't think so, bushmaster has came a long way. I think they make a quality firearm for a decent price. I personally don't own one but know a few people that do and have shot them and haven't seen any problems. I personally own a m&p and a rock river , I don't think you have dropped the ball, get what you can afford, now, now buy as much ammo as you can afford. Preferably federal, pmc, or American eagle. I don't shot steel case ammo in mine, only because it's hard on the extractor and I'm concerned about the quality control. Go out and shoot it and get good with it, and most important have fun doing it.

Now get yourself 15 or so mags and several thousand rounds of ammo - and you have a good start. Do you own a pistol as a backup if the rifle jams? Purchase a video on cleaning - it is rather complicated especially the bolt part (for a layman). Practice run and gun after you master static aiming. That is all. Dismissed.

I can't tell from the ohoto but is the carrying handle removable? Does it clamp to a rail on the top of the receiver?

If not, you can't mount anything worth mounting on the carrying handle so you'll pretty much be stuck using iron sights.

Personally I would have spent another $100 and got a Colt LE6920

I love the fixed carry handle and open sights.

Put a tritium front post on it, and you'll never have to call time-out in a firefight because your batteries went dead, or your optic's screws worked loose.
