It's driving me nuts too.

Here we now have around 6 hours of (very dim) light and it was 10 degrees last night and isn't much above that now.

Pretty sure it never actually got light today.

I enjoy the darkness though, I wouldn't mind a climate where it's warm but also dark a lot, as far as I know, no such climate exists.

Not right. For example in Montreal, Canada the sun did set @ 16.20 in that day. So it could not be dark at all.

I like it. But to be fair, it's light by 7 am and not dark till about 6pm. Don't worry, it won't be much longer and the sun will start making the long trek back to staying in our sky a bit longer each day. Winter solstice. ooooooo that'd be Dec 21-then the 25th it's happy birthday to the sun!

no shit. it shouldn't be getting dark until 6 PM anyway. I fracking leave work at a few minutes till 5 and its already dark.

Anyway @ New York latitude, the sun did set @ 4.35, the light sky duration is about 20 minutes, so it was pretty normal.

Things are "little" different if the OP live for example in south US such as Texas where the sun did set @ 5.32 PM
so in that case it was not normal at all a dark sky @ 5 PM

where do you live in the US? I guess in south area


Anyway this is the situation today in Austin Texas - 5 dic 2012:

The sun rise @ 7.13 AM and set @ 5.30 PM

I'm so glad the day here where I live has almost the exact same duration during all months of the year....

That's why I like to live next to the Equator...
