That is insane wealth. They do not even pay their employees a living wage. Average Wal-Mart salary is $14,500 a year. [ link to www.motherjones.com] Quoting: Anonymous Coward 13127957 well that's minimum wage @ a 40 hour week what do you want for being a walmart worker for fucks sake? Quoting: ^TrInItY^ Really ??? How about reading the article. So while you are sanctioning minimum wage, a wage which is impossible to support a family on... THIS is what people are doing to make up the shortfall.... YOUR money. So yes, they SHOULD get paid more so that they are paid a living wage and NOT having to take taxpayers money. But, if it is ok with you that taxpayers absolve the Wal-Mart from paying a living wage, KNOWING that the state and federal governments will pick up the tab.... "In 2004, a year in which Wal-Mart reported $9.1 billion in profits, the retailer's California employees collected $86 million in public assistance, according to researchers at the University of California-Berkeley. Other studies have revealed widespread use of publicly funded health care by Wal-Mart employees in numerous states. In 2004, Democratic staffers of the House education and workforce committee calculated that each 200-employee Wal-Mart store costs taxpayers an average of more than $400,000 a year, based on entitlements ranging from energy-assistance grants to Medicaid to food stamps to WIC—the federal program that provides food to low-income women with children." Quoting: Anonymous Coward 27421594 How is any of this Walmarts responsibility? You don't have to work there. you don't like pay, go work for a mom and pop store and see what your pay and benefits are like there.
