Re: To Match Walton Heirs' Fortune, You'd Need to Work at Walmart for 7 Million Years
It would take 7 million years for one person to generate the same amount of revenue as a CEO with teams beneath them + dozens of stores and hundreds of people generating income.

Sort of apples and oranges don't you think?

How many years would it take for me to build a 20 story office tower by myself?

Hey here's an idea, let's increase every ones pay by x100 so a cashier at Walmart makes $700.00 dollars per hour, that way it will only take 70,000 years to equal the pay you mentioned.

That is insane wealth. They do not even pay their employees a living wage. Average Wal-Mart salary is $14,500 a year.

well that's minimum wage @ a 40 hour week

what do you want for being a walmart worker for fucks sake?

 Quoting: ^TrInItY^

Really ??? How about reading the article. So while you are sanctioning minimum wage, a wage which is impossible to support a family on... THIS is what people are doing to make up the shortfall.... YOUR money. So yes, they SHOULD get paid more so that they are paid a living wage and NOT having to take taxpayers money.

But, if it is ok with you that taxpayers absolve the Wal-Mart from paying a living wage, KNOWING that the state and federal governments will pick up the tab....

"In 2004, a year in which Wal-Mart reported $9.1 billion in profits, the retailer's California employees collected $86 million in public assistance, according to researchers at the University of California-Berkeley. Other studies have revealed widespread use of publicly funded health care by Wal-Mart employees in numerous states. In 2004, Democratic staffers of the House education and workforce committee calculated that each 200-employee Wal-Mart store costs taxpayers an average of more than $400,000 a year, based on entitlements ranging from energy-assistance grants to Medicaid to food stamps to WIC—the federal program that provides food to low-income women with children."

Amazing how times have changed. I remember when people used to want to be rich or wealthy from actually working for it. Now they want it handed to them.

THE "ME" GENERATION WILL BE THE DOWNFALL OF YOUR COUNTRY!(and mine)

Never had to work for anything, just had it handed to them by mom and dad or the gov't.

Then they treat you like they are "doing you a favour" by just showing up for work, if they even do have a job!

Hard times are a comin' kiddies, and it will hurt you guys the most, because my gen. know what it feels like not to have anything!! (i mean nothing...no cell phone (OMG)!! or cable ..or a Flat screen!!) Just enough to eat for f*&%k sakes!!

SO GET A F"ING GRIP ON REALITY AND WORK FOR YOUR REWARDS!!

They don't pay taxes. Neither do any of the other ruling elite.

Walton's widow died in 2007. If they paid the estate taxes like all of the rest of us that would have broken up the Walmart empire.

Look the mentality that company owners shouldn't make any profit is ridiculous, but that doesn't mean one has to defend Walmart who are the kind of company that are destroying America. People should start buying local again and bankrupt these big vulture corporations. It will be hard at the beginning but it's the only way to start producing wealth again instead of funding the Chinese while America declines.

There is a cosmic light year between being a successful business person and choosing to pursue massive wealth despite the obvious negative effects it will have on communities, families and low income earners.

Why is it that my business partner and I can run our business successfully and still be responsible to our employees and our community?

You, and nearly everyone else on here, including Trinity, are throwing straw men at the argument. This isn't about attacking hard work, entrepreneurship and the entitlement to enjoy the rewards. It's about doing so in a way that is fair to all those in the community and in your employee pool without whom any of it would be possible.

Justifying Wal-Mart's vast wealth as somehow being honest and earned is a crock of shit. They have pulled every dirty trick in the book to amass such wealth, knowing for decades that their business practices are hurting Mom and Pop; the ones who are actually working hard to just have a small piece of that pie.

Capitalism may be great in an open and fair society, where business owners have enough morals to know when to back off and be responsible. This modern capitalism however, built on the idea of Corporate Entitlement is a right is no better than the socialist system you fear where lazy people have a right to Entitlements.

They should! AND they should boycott the fuck out of Walmart!
There very well could be plenty of companies out there that do pay their employees a better wage.

So why don't the Walmart employees go work for them?

Re: To Match Walton Heirs' Fortune, You'd Need to Work at Walmart for 7 Million Years
Walton heirs net worth is $115 billion.

Wal*Mart employs 2.2 million people worldwide.

That's $52,272 per employee.

Remember, that wealth was built over several decades.

Last year, Wal*Mart's profit was $15.699 billion.

That's $7,135 per employee on an annual basis. They could pay their people a little more, but not much.

Yes, the Walton family has an obscene amount of wealth, just like the Rockefellers, the Rothschilds, the Koch brothers, etc. That's how capitalism works.

Only thing you or I can do is decide whether or not to do business with Wal*Mart.

I still shop there.

That is insane wealth. They do not even pay their employees a living wage. Average Wal-Mart salary is $14,500 a year.

well that's minimum wage @ a 40 hour week

what do you want for being a walmart worker for fucks sake?

lol

hey I know

how about you form a union

force walmart to pay their workers $30 an hour + 150k a year retirement package and drive them out of business

then you won't have to worry about not being paid enough

you can worry about not being paid at all!

If you don't like the way a business does business - DON"T SPEND YOUR MONEY THERE! We are (or used to be) the largest consumer nation on earth, but we continue to be led off the cliff by a smiling sunshine face and the promise of a bargain!
I support my local business owners - and they appreciate it. It is a simple equation, spend your money close to home and it is more likely to find it's way back to you!
Quit bitching about it and do something - one dollar at a time.

WalMart has also made many thousands of people into millionaires.

Sam Walton was a decent man who still drove an old pick-up truck when he had a dozen stores.

The second generation Waltons have been brought up with money, and that's often a difficult predicament to overcome---almost a curse actually.
In his book, "Between Two Ages," Brzezinski wrote: "The technetronic era involves the gradual appearance of a more controlled society. Such a society would be dominated by an elite, unrestrained by traditional values."

Work at Walmart for 7 Million Years OR be as enterprising as Sam Walton and those that followed. Or get an education or go to a trade school and do something that will earn you more than minimum wage.

No one is forcing the employees to work there.
