To Match Walton Heirs' Fortune, You'd Need to Work at Walmart for 7 Million Years

Wal-Mart has damaged the United States at an incredible level. Sure, K-Mart and Target have the same business models (by the way, Target's wages are far higher and they do not discriminate when promoting from within) but they have not caused near the damage.

In Urban areas: Wal-Mart opens a store. A bunch of small business stores close up and other franchises move in (CVS, McDonalds, etc.) around it to pick up Wal-Mart's business. Then, Wal-Mart closes their (massive) store and moves it 1.5 miles south, taking out ALL of the other (sometimes privately owned!) franchises with it. Then, you have a gigantic empty building with a massive empty parking lot and 5-10 empty stores with their own parking lots all around. Wal-Mart just killed a micro-economy. Nobody will ever buy an old Wal-Mart building because they are just too big, the only thing they could be used for is Wal-Mart.

In Rural areas: When Wal-Mart moves into a small town, they take out every business with them, guaranteed. All small businesses close and all workers go to work at Wal-Mart. I've seen Wal-Mart make a move like that, and then move out of a town 7 years later completely killing the town.

Wal-Mart is the perfect example of why capitalism is dangerous and should be limited. No company should be that big. Even if you put a McDonalds in a town of 1500 people, it doesn't mean people are going to go there for all of their nourishment. There is no other retail company that is on the same level as Wal-Mart in this world. I'm just glad that where I live (Japan) the government limited Wal-Mart (they operate under the name of Seiyu here) to smaller grocery stores (and that's IT..)

I'm a Reagan Republican and have never voted Democrat. I work for Wal-Mart and they could care less about the associates that do the heavy lifting. It was a better company before Sam died. They took pride in selling American-made goods and they cared more for their workers. They could care less now. They deserve what's coming to them.

You don't DESERVE anything! You make big risk you get big rewards. If you Play it safe that is your choice but don't bitch about small returns and damm sure don't expect the people who made all the risk to just hand over thier rewards. Bunch of fucking communist feeders!

How is any of this Walmarts responsibility? You don't have to work there. you don't like pay, go work for a mom and pop store and see what your pay and benefits are like there.

I make a reasonably good living but most associates do not. I am speaking for them. Wal-mart treats them like shit. I see it everyday. One of their core beliefs is supposed to be Respect For The Individual. What a crock of shit that is. I am not pro-union but Wal-Mart deserves evil for evil and thats the fucking truth. Not the point, stupid person. The point is that I am QUITE sure that it is a part of Walmat's business model to not worry much about low wages FULL well knowing that YOU and I will pick up the tab. The point, also stupid person, is that whether or not A or B moves on to another job, someone else will take their place and someone else will again need public assistance just to make do. So no mater "who" moves on, the entire business model relies on the welfare state to keep people happy enough to not rebel.

Oh, I forgot... this is GLP where in one thread people rant about the welfare state and lazy people, and the next fail to see WHY there is a welfare state when families such as this one becomes insanely rich, and complain in one thread about unemployment and jobs going overseas and then blame the worker in threads like these as if they have anything to do with families such as these becoming rich off of barely subsistence living wages. No I'm the guy who took the initiative to build a few companies from ground up and know exactly what happens. Don't even try to play the victim! If people like me and other business owners did not take the risk you would be left in the dark corner beating off waiting for "them" to come save you. But just wait because that time is comming. The risk takers are done. Can you tell me the GDP of the US government? I can fucking zero! They produce NO revenue yet over 40% of the employees in the US are government employees feeding off the 60% that actually produce revenue. Good god people take an economics class. You will all starve, at least understand why this WILL happen!

I work for Wal-mart because I worked in their information systems division in Bentonville but had to move back to Georgia because my parents and my wife's parents became ill and we decided it was more important to be near family rather than make a lot of money. So I work in the stores now. You got a problem with that?

As I said, they treat their hourly employees like shit and I stand by that comment.

My last business I had 250 employees and had to figure out how to bring in $1,000,000 a week! It got to be a body shop so I sold it.... All business grows to that point.... You should know this....

I do and know having your own business is a very risky endeavor. I applaud you for taking those risks. All I'm saying is I wish people would stop supporting a business that decides to stay open on Thanksgiving. I will not be working with Wal-Mart much longer as I have other options available and I do not wish to enable the Beast any further.
