Hey, Paul Ryan, your collectivist is showing
My (somewhat rhetorical) question that I'm hoping to get answered is...

How can Paul Ryan feel bitter towards the voters who voted for their own self-interest (IE, they voted for Obama who promised them bigger welfare checks, fancier Obamaphones and more comprehensive socialized healthcare) over the collective good of the country (IE, Romney/Ryan, who would've had to make unpopular and sometimes unpalatable cuts to entitlements, even though it would be necessary as a first step towards reducing the debt and balancing the budget)?

I mean, if Paul Ryan is as dedicated an admirer of Ayn Rand's as he claimed to be (anybody who cites the strategic distance he put between himself and Objectivism obviously doesn't know the meaning of 'political expediency') then how can he begrudge the American electorate for looking out for themselves rather than sacrificing for the good of others? Why should the Obama voters have to give up their free shit so that someone else's grandkids live in a more financially sound country?

A whole other issue is the fact that Ryan has never made a good Objectivist, even before he started backtracking. To be true to yourself in the face of everything and everyone else is a fundamental of the philosophy. A brownnoser and coward who lies about his true beliefs, waters down his personal vision, and basically sells out in the name of electoral politics is someone obviously not suited for the unconventional, challenging but above all fulfilling life Rand envisioned.

(Don't even get me started on the fact that you can't be a Christian Objectivist. Rand would be the first to tell you that the life espoused by the church and the life espoused by her are 100% incompatible.)

Tl;dr: Paul Ryan is a rat, a hive-minded sycophant, and a sell-out of the highest order. I'm ashamed that this loser's face on the TV has turned off so many of the sleeping sheeple from exploring the unfairly demonized philosophy of Ayn Rand

Nobody?

Come on, I can't be the only person fed up with how the media demonizes Objectivism and Ayn Rand and then slaps a power-hungry, conniving conservative Christian like Ryan up on the screen as if that somehow proves their point?

It's blatant misrepresentation. How would the liberals and anti-individualists like it if I ran a story about how evil Mikhail Bakunin was and then showed footage of Obama, as if the two were somehow connected ideologically?

They'd be howling about the injustice of it all, about how Obama and Bakunin are nothing alike. To a milder extent, that's the bone I'm picking with the Ryan/Rand relationship. While I wouldn't characterize myself as being as whiny and petulant as the Big Gov, Big Media types, I am more than a little pissed at how successful their campaign to shame Objectivism has been.

You won't find a single true Objectivist (not Paul Ryan, not Clarence Thomas, not any of them) in national American politics. We don't put up with the bullshit, treachery and selling out. It's no small wonder people think Objectivists are nothing but greedy fascists when the media is using Paul Ryan's likeness as an example, rather than any number of successful, upstanding Objectivists - like Steve Ditko, for example.

Tl;dr: using Paul Ryan as an example of an Ayn Rand disciple is disingenuous because he's a spineless wimp who would do or say anything to get a vote.

Wow, and here I was thinking there were some real individualists on GLP.

I guess most GLPers are on the 'follower' side of the authoritarian spectrum and would rather let people like Paul Ryan tell them how to live than to think for themselves.

Fine. Whatever. Let this thread sink, I guess. Though I'm still a little bit disappointed at the lack of outrage here. I expected better.

Just another lying politician. Nothing new here.

Ans what adult takes that Alisa Rosenbaum crap seriously, anyway? Ayn Rand is just more propaganda from the usual crowd.
Not intended to be a factual statement.

^^^Dishonest and false comparison ruins OP's premise. He blew his own shit up with the above nonsense but see's himself as brilliant.
