Am I the only person who's against legalizing pot?

no i'm not for the legalization of pot either.

more individual freedom is preferable to less. Guns and pot for all, just not at the same time.

The only people I know still agianst pot are the ones brainwashed into believing the only goal in life is to live the "American Dream". you know, white picket fence, 2 story house in the "desperate housewives setting", work work work work to have all that shit till you drop dead.

To them, ppl. who smoke pot are "losers who didnt try hard enough".

Also I can't help but feel that maybe another legalized intoxicant isn't the answer to any real problems.

But whatever. My views are quickly becoming minority. It's looking like we're heading for nationwide, recreational legalization whether I like it or not.

Its safer then Alcohol and I bet both you guys partake in drink.

I don't smoke pot anymore, probably never will smoke much if any at all ever again.

Nevertheless there is no reason to have it illegal, so why would I be against legalisation?

Also we would be able to tax the hell out of the consumers, the growers, all the paraphernalia etc. It would reduce the deficit huge and be a boon for the economy.

I want to grow some weed in my back yard so I can run my truck on it.

I can't decide who I want to be making the money from it... CIA/Mexican cartels or American tobacco corporations? If it was all just hippies in Humboldt growing, I would be all for it, but once it is regulated like tobacco, who can afford the permits other than Philip Morris, etc.?

You shouldnt be worrying about what other people are doing. If you do not want to smoke pot then dont do it.

I guess. I've kind of accepted that it's going to be legalized and really all I can do is not partake in it myself.

I'm not really strongly against weed. I know it's nothing like the 'Reefer Madness' propaganda made it out to be.

Its not about endorsing pot smoking its endorsing 'freedom' which comes with responsibility and thats not a bad thing.

dont dumb down the argument because thats how the discussion never gets traction and it feeds on peoples fears/ignorance.

It's not an answer to any real problem I fully agree.

But what answer is the criminalization of pot good for? Especially when taking into account the downsides (massive prison population, massive financial support for criminal gangs etc. etc.), is pot really that bad to warrant the downsides compared to for example alcohol?

So then you're pro wasting billions of dollars enforcing marijuana laws and incarcerating citizens for marijuana related offenses?

Thousands upon thousands are in jail for using a plant provided by mother nature.. Have a think about that..

I don't think it's that simple. I don't really buy the whole "Marijuana is natural, ergo it should be legal" argument. Not saying there aren't any good arguments for legalization, but that's not one of them.

I hear this argument so much it's not even funny. What the people who use this excuse fail to realize is that the current laws are doing absolutely NOTHING to stop anyone from smoking pot. Under the current system, anyone of any age who wants to get pot can do so very easily.

The current laws are doing nothing except putting a temporary dent in the supply chain (at BEST)...they are also wasting untold millions (more likely billions) in police resources that could be better spent tracking down REAL, violent criminals.

In a legal environment, hefty fines will keep shop owners (and your average guy on the street) from selling to minors, quality will become more uniform as the free market takes over the trade, profits will go back into the economy rather than to the black market and criminal enterprises (where currently 100% of the profits go) and regular people who happen to smoke weed (which is most of them) will no longer have to interact with society's more unsavory elements to get their hands on some.

Sure, there will be some adjustments society will have to get used to...it will appear that more and more people are smoking, when in reality it will only seem that way, as all the closet smokers will no longer have to fear persecution and prosecution from their peers. And just like alcohol, minors will find ways to get their hands on it, and yes some people will do stupid things with it, but tat's no different than things now, except people who get caught will be subject to fines rather than a criminal record that will haunt them their entire lives and ruin their chances of becoming productive members of society.

The way I see it, people's minds now-a-days are already messed up bad enough. What will our society be like when there are no laws holding the insanity at bay.

Well yeah. Also: if you don't want an abortion don't get one, if you don't like guns don't buy one, if you're against gay marriage don't marry a member of the same sex, etc., etc., etc.

Unfortunately, people just can't seem to mind their own god-damned business.

The demotivational theory was debunked a long time ago. Besides that, there are plenty of things that rob people of any "real world" motivation, and the gross majority of them are legal (or at least not ILlegal)

An really, it makes people lacksadaisical? Take a look around, the world could probably use a few more people who don't take everything so seriously.

the adjustment to a freer society will take time but i dont think it will result in chaos.

its not like there isnt a solution either, its just that people need to calm the fuck down for minute and listen and take it in bit by bit.

To be fair, alot of those messed up minds have LEGAL medications to thank for that, all the anti-weed people are bitching about the wrong drug pushers.
