Re: Women who went through C-sections...
Had 3 emergency C-sections. Babies simply wouldn't come out naturally - the first one was taken after 36 hours of back labor.

Much more recovery time than a normal birth.

Was it worth it? Absolutely. hf
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 12432310

My mother was in labor for over 36 hrs with my older sister...and she was 40 at the time, with a weak heart

Nevertheless the doctors at the Catholic hospital she was at wouldn't perform a C-Section

One actually said "the bible said women shall bear their children in pain"

At that point my dad, who was not a weak man, pulled the doctor in charge aside and said something to the extent of "you want to see pain? How about counting your teeth on the ground out in the parking lot?"

Mom got her c-section, and 9 years later I was delivered the same way

My mother was extremely devoted to us and I could feel her love. I don't think the delivery affected the bond

I do wonder if a woman who goes through extreme pain, tearing and suffering in order to have a "vaginal" birth might feel some resentment towards the child

But I speak only as an observer to the entire experience
 Quoting: IssueX

only a person who is radically immature could ever feel resentment towards her child for having to be born a certain way.

when i had my c section it was at a catholic hospital.

i asked them if they would tie my tubes but they refused.
 Quoting: pink cat

I had to have my 2nd c section at a non catholic hospital for that reason. My first child born by c section was born at the catholic hospital where I worked at the time. My second child was born at the Lutheran Hospital. Catholics do not understand the laws of God at all. There is no requirement to not have birth control by God. I only wanted 2 kids for many reasons, and knowing that sex on this world tends to continue after child birth, I wanted my tubes tied. There one prohibition here has caused all sorts of irresponsible behavior. there is no God that demands that you cannot use birth control when you are not ready to bear a child or are finished bearing children.

Re: Women who went through C-sections...
I've had 4 kids...9lbs 9oz., 8lbs 11oz, 8lbs 11oz., and 9lbs 13oz.

The first and third were emergency C-sections, the second and fourth were V-backs.

I was put under general for my first C-section and felt I missed out on the bonding time while I came down off the drugs...they wouldn't let me hold her for 4 hours after I awoke.

My observation is this: My love, dedication and devotion to all four children is the same. I do not feel differently about my love for any of my kids. I do however notice that my two C-section babies are somewhat different from my two v-back babies in that they have confidence issues, and they suffer from allergies, insomnia and anxiety, where as my other two kids don't.

I have read that the physical process of passing through the birth canal is also biological and psychological. An essential enzyme and bacteria transfer occurs, and apparently the actual crushing sensation of passing through the pelvis/vagina prepares the infant for the real world outside by releasing chemicals and hormones in the process, creating a biological and psychological threshold that is absent from C-section births.

I hope this has shed some light on the issue. Having had four kids two ways does give me some insight on the subject. I am also good friends with my midwife, whom I still learn from continuously, six years after my last birth. BTW, my first two were OB/GYN babies and the last two were midwifery babies and I very highly recommend midwifery to anyone who has access to it. The care I received from the midwives (even during my c-section) was exceptional.

hf Heart flowers to all moms and kids out there. Celebrate life and love.

My first was 9 lbs and I delivered vaginally after 36 hours of Labor. I had hemorrhaged, had maternal exhaustion and my baby had a hematoma on his head. I went home anemic and it tooks a few months to feel good.

My second and third were both C Sections. The children were 10 lbs and 10lbs 8oz. I felt amazing after the sections. I had no problem bonding and who cares about a scar when you are holding God's precious gift? I didn't.

if it was up to me, all women would have babies by c-sections as a part of induced labour, after she enters the time in which it's safe to do this, and a tummy tuck immediately after the baby is born, while she is still in surgery.

plenty of rich women do it this way, so it's safe only requires skilled doctors.

there is nothing natural in the way women have babies, especially nothing grand, natural, or beautiful in the pain, the mutulation of my body, or anything that happens during the giving birth through your vagina, i might as well have a c-section....

unless someone really wants to claim that hours of excrusiatiing pain in which parts of me, i grew to like since i use them to make love to the other half of my everything, open up like a gauge, and then my son or daughter ripps my periannum, until i almost faint, and it's sawed back together and my sagging stomach and vagina stay an open wound for at least a month, and i am at bed rest for fear of ripping open again, and my genitals never ever get back into same shape i was in prior to having my kids.
but half of my everything still has the same penis, only he is 33 and i am 40, with a wracked vagina from our teo kids, and with tight pussy attached to beautiful ladies of 25 walking around saying to my husband, 'heyyy, sup, can wanna see my lovely little pussy?'

even christians understand that the way we have kids was part of a cruel punishment of eve, and not only eve, but the fact it applies to all women was designed to make eve feel guilty of the horrendous pain and terror all women go through so they could have a family....

so anyone claiming anything natural about the way we have kids, or finding beauty in it is in denial.

kids are the best part of humanity withiut a doubt, but the way we have kids is ignorant, coz unusually criel punishment and torture of women is considered natural and even beautiful....

You're a little bit bonkers, aren't you?

Vaginal birth is natural. It's been done that way since the beginning of time. Just because it's painful and messy doesn't mean it's not. I feel for the women that have to get cut open, I'm sure many would prefer to give birth naturally.

You're pissed because your vag is loose. Try kegals and then get some therapy.
And the LORD spake, saying, "First shalt thou take out the Holy Pin, then shalt thou count to three, no more, no less. Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who being naughty in My sight, shall snuff it.

Well, I think a connection to a live baby versus one that would have died is pretty good, now if your a craniosacral therapist you might disagree (given that the baby would have lived with out the c section) due to the importance (long term) of the baby coming through the birth canal and all that.

Dead baby connection, not so good.

This thread pisses me off, what is your point?

Please, do not misunderstand me, I do not blame all catholics, and there are good people of all faiths, imho..

in addition, my older sister's birth took place at a catholic hospital out of the USA over 60 years ago, so that may explain what happened to my mother

I think every birth is a miracle, and am always amazed at the strength and resiliency of women to go through this trauma in order to bring life into the world

I know that as a teenager, after I watched my first graphic movie showing childbirth, I was the first to give flowers to my mom on Mother's Day, lol.

Guess I was truly blessed. All four were natural; never gained over 20 pounds, no stretch marks, 4.5 longest labor and bounced right back good as new every time. Thank God for no belly scar from C-sections. I understand it takes a lot longer to heal and is harder to lose the belly fat from pregnancy.

I have had two babies, one was delivered the traditional way, the other was a c section...both guys are young men now and doing well...I have a huge scar that I am very proud of and the baby that came from that is nearly six foot now.
The only difference is that I feel that the c section babies head is not a well shaped head, but hair seems to cover that and he is no smarter or dumber than anyone else in the family.

Thank goodness for the c section..if that wasnt available we both would have died.

Re: Women who went through C-sections...
Interesting article in the New Yorker a few weeks back about our many helpful colonies of bacteria in the body, and science's dawning realization that, rather than germs being bad, a healthy ecosystem of good germs seems to promote good health.

One of the details within the article is that children of C-sections seem to have a less varied germ ecosystem, and potentially as a result, are more susceptible to illnesses. It seems that the passage of the baby through the birth canal might provide a vital process of seeding the newborn with thousands of different types of germs.

No one is concerned about your vagina.

Problem is you felt the need to go into graphic detail about how loose it is.

I have a vagina..I squeezed a couple of human beings out of it. All natural like and mine isn't all tore up and loose. I don't have a floppy belly either, but then I didn't eat like a sow, allow myself to get all out of shape and then magically expect my body to morph into what it was immediately after the baby came out.

Save your anger for someone else. Don't spout off about your loose lady parts and you will not be addressed about them again. Easy enough, right?

I didn't see that in this thread

I saw the threat title and had to comment, because many times my father said if it weren't for c-sections, he would have lost both my mother and probably my sister

of course it's a surgical procedure, not to be taken lightly

for those who have no troubles having a vaginal birth, that is wonderful, preferable and I'm sure it has many advantages

however, we forget today how many women used to die in childbirth because of complications if the babies were breach or the heads were too large or countless other issues

thank heaven for c-sections and the lives they have saved.

That's a load of crap! yes I had a c-section. yes it was hard cause I didn't get to meet her until the next day (doctors messed up and had to open me again to get their missing tool out of my stomach...oh yeah...a big wtf!). So meeting her was like WOW she is so beautiful and I love her so much...but is this one mine? But once we got home and bonded it did not matter. Of course I wish delivery would have been different. but all that matters is that she is healthy. As far as the dumb ass comment above, I would scar my whole entire body for her if it meant that she is ok. That poster obviously underestimates a mother's love!

Also, it was very nice that having an emergency C-Section meant that my baby and I got to live - rather than both of us dying, which would have been the result of natural childbirth.

As to bonding, that was immediate - as soon as my baby got to return from the ICU.

Re: Women who went through C-sections...
Do you feel like you missed out on anything because you had a C-section?

Theres a documentary called "The Buisness of Being Born", Great little film about the benefits of natural birth. Worth a watch.

Towards the end, a woman claims she felt she has a missing link between herself and her baby. The motherly bond still there, but just some "thing" missing between them.

I've heard this repeated with other women I personally know who went through the C-section.

For me, I don't feel that way. I was put under completely for it and woke up 30 mins after the baby was born. Didn't see him for another 20 mins after that.

So I feel like I missed out that part, and that part was so very important to me, but I don't feel a missing "link" or whatever between my son and myself.

I tried delivering with a midwife and the thought of hospital terrified me. Wasn't part of my birth plan at all. I eventually had to go to the hospital because my labor went haywire.

Just curious how other women feel. Is there something missing for you? What sort of bond is severed, if any?

With my first, I had him normally, and they took him from me for an HOUR. With my C-Section, I was more than clear about them doing what they needed to do, then making sure I got to have the baby. I felt like I missed out more with the first one because I lacked the assertiveness to make sure they didn't just take him away like they did. It SUCKS when hospitals do that, many of them find that bathing the baby and doing a bunch of extra stuff is more important. Unless there is a big medical problem, there shouldn't be a reason they have them for more than 10 minutes (sewing you up time aside) before they let you see them again.
As far as my kids go, NOTHING is lacking due to it, I'm very close to them, it didn't matter at all and they sure don't remember it. :)

You are absolutely correct!!

My first was a C, ended up with very bad digestive problems, Crohn's disease.

I recently read that women's bacteria in the vagina change close to birthing, to that which is necessary to digest milk, for the baby to colonize their guts with. What the heck do you think they pick up in a hospital ward after a c-section? Not good!!!

Had homebirths after that; super healthy kids, never go to doctor. challenging to arrange homebirth after C, but can be done. HBAC.

NOte: One was born "in the caul" (vaginal but still in the amniotic sac- therefore getting none of the good bacteria from the mother) Have heard of children having problems similar to c-sections because of this (allergies, digestive problems, etc.) We fed baby a little good yoghurt right after birth and digestion has always been great.

p.s., can excercise better after natural birth, that's what makes you nice and tight!

The only thing I missed was an early death.

In addition, recovery was much easier on the genitalia.

Re: Women who went through C-sections...
my girlfriend felt so bad for not having a natural delivery. She wanted it so bad, and part of her post-delivery sadness was from not being able to natural birth and breastfeed. It's so sad but these things really do weigh heavily on the minds of American ladies especially.

I was just happy that they both made it thru. It was a little hairy for a bit...

Re: Women who went through C-sections...
if it was up to me, all women would have babies by c-sections as a part of induced labour, after she enters the time in which it's safe to do this, and a tummy tuck immediately after the baby is born, while she is still in surgery.

plenty of rich women do it this way, so it's safe only requires skilled doctors.

there is nothing natural in the way women have babies, especially nothing grand, natural, or beautiful in the pain, the mutulation of my body, or anything that happens during the giving birth through your vagina, i might as well have a c-section....

unless someone really wants to claim that hours of excrusiatiing pain in which parts of me, i grew to like since i use them to make love to the other half of my everything, open up like a gauge, and then my son or daughter ripps my periannum, until i almost faint, and it's sawed back together and my sagging stomach and vagina stay an open wound for at least a month, and i am at bed rest for fear of ripping open again, and my genitals never ever get back into same shape i was in prior to having my kids.
but half of my everything still has the same penis, only he is 33 and i am 40, with a wracked vagina from our teo kids, and with tight pussy attached to beautiful ladies of 25 walking around saying to my husband, 'heyyy, sup, can wanna see my lovely little pussy?'

even christians understand that the way we have kids was part of a cruel punishment of eve, and not only eve, but the fact it applies to all women was designed to make eve feel guilty of the horrendous pain and terror all women go through so they could have a family....

so anyone claiming anything natural about the way we have kids, or finding beauty in it is in denial.

kids are the best part of humanity withiut a doubt, but the way we have kids is ignorant, coz unusually criel punishment and torture of women is considered natural and even beautiful....

 Quoting: Debauchery

yep, you are right, only coz time was also invented to punish lucifer and eve for standing up to the god of this world, same as "natural" birth.
don't concern yourself with my vagina though, just worry about your own.
if you have one.
if not, you can always pay someone to show you hers.
 Quoting: eve 28145061

No one is concerned about your vagina.

Problem is you felt the need to go into graphic detail about how loose it is.

I have a vagina..I squeezed a couple of human beings out of it. All natural like and mine isn't all tore up and loose. I don't have a floppy belly either, but then I didn't eat like a sow, allow myself to get all out of shape and then magically expect my body to morph into what it was immediately after the baby came out.

Save your anger for someone else. Don't spout off about your loose lady parts and you will not be addressed about them again. Easy enough, right?
 Quoting: Debauchery

there you go again, with my vagina.
if i didn't know you're a girl, i'd think you developed a bit of an obsession.

so you are one of those magical creatures, like fairys, or women who had two kids, had no tummy tuck and have no lose skin on their belly, plus your vagina did not get bigger, like all of the mortal women who had kids have been telling me, and all of the doctors that specilized OBGYN, lol.

anyone can talk rubish. rubosh talk doen't make you have a flat belly, or a nice vagina.
so i will continue to believe that the only way you get to see a vagina is by paying.
