[ link to epaabuse.com] A pair of foreign-owned solar companies that benefited from a combined $84 million in Energy Department tax credits have announced they will lay off employees. One of the companies, German-owned SolarWorld, was integral in the fight for tariffs against the importation of Chinese photovoltaic solar panels. The other, Chinese company SunTech, blamed those tariffs for its own layoffs. Quoting: Carshy McCarsh Of course they'll both look for something to blame. So they blame each other. Likely it's general market conditions for solar. I just declined to put solar on my roof. After all rebates it would have cost about $8000 for a 20 year lease in which the company would do all required maintenance, and it would have saved me half or more of my electric bill. I have a good roof and good conditions. If consumers like me still find it uneconomic, it's not a good deal at current prices. If I am still not buying, there's not that much of a market there, beyond people who are willing to spend more to "go green" or "be opinion leaders".
