[ link to epaabuse.com] A pair of foreign-owned solar companies that benefited from a combined $84 million in Energy Department tax credits have announced they will lay off employees. One of the companies, German-owned SolarWorld, was integral in the fight for tariffs against the importation of Chinese photovoltaic solar panels. The other, Chinese company SunTech, blamed those tariffs for its own layoffs.  Of course they'll both look for something to blame. So they blame each other. Likely it's general market conditions for solar. I just declined to put solar on my roof. After all rebates it would have cost about $8000 for a 20 year lease in which the company would do all required maintenance, and it would have saved me half or more of my electric bill. I have a good roof and good conditions. If consumers like me still find it uneconomic, it's not a good deal at current prices. If I am still not buying, there's not that much of a market there, beyond people who are willing to spend more to "go green" or "be opinion leaders".
