Windows 8 killed thousands of PC

Steam just made a Linux version of itself, last I heard, 32 titles currently supported.

For those that migrated, lol, should of VMware'd that crap OS first, I did over 8 months ago, what a pathetic(W8) OS. It took me until earlier this year to migrate to 7, from XP. And only x86, as I witnessed many problems with x64 drivers. For those that think they need more than 3.5GB of RAM and a fancy new os just to surf their facebook and other stupid crap, you are mistaken. You DO NOT NEED all that power for simple things like word processing and youtube/facebook surfing. NO NEED at all.

I run VS10, VMware(up to 3VM at once) and can run a game such as D3 or AC3(woo hoo, finally here) at the same time, and still have about 314MB left on my 3.5GB machine, 3.2GHz q9550, and GTX 260.

Keep calling that bullshit social media, when in reality it's a social data gathering network. So keep going on there and tweeting to people how avarage and boring your existence is, meanwhile the government can keep adding facts to your file.

The only way I would get windows 8 is if I needed a new computer and the best bargain one I could find had W8 already unfortunately installed on it.

Window 8 is really for touch screen computers. That being said, i'm not upgrading mine. I'm sticking with window 7 like I did with XP for 8 years. Yes, eight years before it died of old age.

I wont reveal where, but alot of Pawn shops lately have been getting brand new bricked Windows 8 Laptops in.... like 6 a day from users that bought a laptop, found out they couldn't use the laptop or that it crashed everysingletime and the stores are not taking them back....

Pawn shops are not giving out much for bricked laptops, people are pissed.

what is the big hype with windows 8? is it that different?

so are the problems just with the upgrades? or with a new windows 8 laptop?

You know W8 sounds like "wait"..maybe because you have to wait through all of the crashes.

Why don't people realize it's never a good idea to get a Microsoft product without a few months of release. Wait a few years before doing that stuff. Microsoft products are the biggest headache in the world. And most likely Windows 9 is going to come out in a year, charged even more for a fix to Windows 8. Followed by a more stable realize of Windows 9 products followed by another failure upgrade of Windows 10.

Upgrade from Win7 to Win8:

WiFi acts retarded and only worked after some days of constant upgrades, system freezes after entering standby for no reason, i do not see any real usability in those "active" tiles that do not seem to be that active, does not support POP3, does not support Outlook 2003 servers, needs Windows Live-ID constantly for any thing you want to set-up, store is bugged and retarded to use, now 2 system controls, why no start button on the desktop, desktop is a space waster alsmost as bad as Win7, explorer now has those retarded ribbons too (barf), those metro apps suck balls when it comes to functionality, Win Media Player and Metro Media Player do not integrate well (or at all ?) and play at the same time (wtf ?) and metro media player playlists are very, very, retarded to use (say goodbye to selecting multiple files at once). Operation with active corners is like OS-X expose .. i love OS-X expose because it works ... Win 7 active corners are f.. broken.

The new Office 365 (or whatever) i tested in my workplace is a mess.. stay the f. away from it and use something useful and cheaper like LibreOffice.

It is a bit faster on my test-Netbook than Win 7.

M$ should have stopped with Win XP and integrated an usable Desktop Search into it. Done.

thats what they get for upgrading , you never upgrade you do a full install, even with linux going from one LTS to the next is trouble its asking for bullshit, it leaves configuration files all they need to do is use sysprep and redo the mini setup

I like the idea of windows 8 but i need my start button so i added it i MIGHT upgrade but no way i will do it at the moment and as the guy said up top Steam is working on Linux version, If i can game 100% on linux i will go right to it.

it's mainly made for tablets, or computers with touch displays it's only win7 with touch and social media addons turning off one feature makes it identical to windows 7

Windows 7 didnt have anything amazing that they couldnt do in a free update and windows 8 wont have anything worth buying it for either.

Sucks to be the early Christians and whatnot...

1.) Go to a different computer that has Internet access.

2.) go to www.ubuntu.com and download the latest version for desktop.

3.) Burn the image to a CD or DVD (I think it fits on a CD).

4.) Put the CD/DVD in the affected computer

5.) Boot to CD/DVD

6.) Make the choice of just running of the CD/DVD or installing it to disk and ridding yourself of Winblows.

win7 is fine, why bother BUYING win8 so early if at all? Nothing new in win8

I just got a computer with Windows 7 and compared to XP I think I will use my old computer with XP on it a few more years, and when I looked at Windows 8 I decided anyone else can have it, I don't want it, and that will be that. And I doubt if I have just a couple of program to use with Windows 7, because I have other things I have to spend my money on, and Microsoft is not one of those things.

yes it killed my pc too.
I could not upload photos.my mouse was playing up.real player downloader did not work. then I had to re-install it again.

I don't really feel sorry for him... ANYONE in IT knows you should NEVER EVER be the first person to install something on a critical system. In other words, you wait a few months and let all the other suckers bake out the errors before you upgrade your own systems.

Its a newb/rube mistake that the guy will hopefully learn from and never make again.

I love XP still... IMHO, its the best operating system that MS ever produced. Windows 7 isnt too terrible, now that I am getting used to it, but if they offered an extended license & support for XP, I would probably go back.

By the way, what program do you use for e-mail with Windows 7, at least with XP I had Outlook Express and it works. I like to know what you use - if it is Windows Live Mail whatever because I am still setting up this computer - my way - not Microsoft's way??????

And the only thing the Windows 7 computer has over my XP computer is that it is 64-bit, instead of 32-bit, but still...................XP is fine with me yet except for a few newer programs I have but really don't need.
