Calling someone (blank)-American is an attempt to not only make them a separate thing from an American and from other differently hyphenated Americans, but to place a thing before American, that is to say to trump its importance in defining oneself. It is just programmed politically correct insanity. The correct scientific name you are looking for is Negro. Somewhere along the way some idiot thought that had a negative connotation and wanted to sound more sensitive and started calling people colored. Then “colored” people decided that was negative too and they wanted to be called “black”. Then “black” people decided that too sounded negative and demanded to be called “African” even though Africa is a continent with many races and the overwhelming majority of people in America are born here not in Africa.
