There is a neighbor, where I live, who is a sociopath. He will invent any excuse to leave if I suggest anything he doesn't want to discuss, like anything that doesn't advance his agenda. He will lie to my face about anything and he always tries to maintain a friendly face unless I can't do anything for him. When he detects I can do nothing for him, like loan any money or help him work on his shiny truck and motorcycle, he will change to "avoidance tactics". He does this with everyone he meets. A truly selfish-to-the-bone, sociopath. I don't do a thing for him now.

He is like my neighbor at the exception that she is a woman and she doesn't ask for the same things you are describing (money)...A user to the max. Here I help you shade some light: those people grew up in a household where they were spoiled. My neighbor is 60 years old and she cries about condo fees ALL THE TIME....I am unemployed and she has a job, no children or family living with her (no money to spend there),she would spend her afternoon shopping for herself.

All these traits I don't mind but she used me to the max: one day,my husband started a conversation,I told him not to get involved with her as neighbors are neighbors not friends. A week after, he invited her once for coffee, we talked.Ithought she was nice.Appearances are sodeceiving! After that, she started knocking on the door every time she had a question.

Then, one day,in summer, she wanted to list her house for sale, she asked me to help her with the pictures...she didn't give me a glass of water, I was thirsty,it was a hot day,we posted the pictures and reviewed her listing together, she held me the all afternoon...
Husband was mad when she didn't give me a glass of water.
Then,she never called me again. I called her, she said "after work I want to think about something else".

Also,she knows I don't have a job and I asked her if she could sell me the plants she has (as she is going to her home country) and she hesitated and then said yes...how about the help we gave you?

Sorry,but I think she should have given me something in return, if she was nice and notselfishIwould have helped her again without nothing in return. She hears my husband and I arguing and the next day she asks for help,knowing we have problems....

I didn't know my neighbor was a sociopath until this happened:

Before we bought our town house, she was listing her house for sell. Then, we happen to like the house next to her,so we bought that house we are currently living in.

She relisted the house the following summer. We were seeing a lady coming to visit the house often,interested in buying. Then, one day, our neighbor knocks on the door, she asks my husband if he wants to be the witness to the signing, he agrees.

She was selling it for 160 000 dollars, she even told me that and my husbands saw it written on the papers when he witnessed the signing. The priceon thelisting was lower, but the lady wanted the house so badly, they agreed on 160 000 dollars.

Then, one day, she tells me she is not going to sell the house, she changed her mind, she says that the girl wanted the house so badly! she even came to her place of work to discuss some details. The potential buyer was interested but my neighbor just happen to change her mind. Then, the next year, she relist her house again (the year I helped her with the pictures for the listing). When we were listing the house, she told me that she almost sold it for 149 900 dollars last year to "the girl" as she calls her. Remember, she said she was selling it for 160 000 dollars and my husband saw it on the papers? she lied to our face.

In fact, for all those years, she has been listing her house just to see how much she could sell itfor, disrespecting people who have plans to buy a home, who probably want to start all over.
Sociopaths have no remorse, for me she is one!

In my opinion, most people will encounter at least ONE Psychopath or Sociopath every single day.

I have a couple of problems with the article, it focuses on extreme Sociopaths. The most dangerous Sociopaths of all are the ones that manage to remain concealed, and don't get caught.

Folks need remedial education in basic techniques for identification of these desperately disordered persons.
