M16 (M4)...but barely. It eeks out a win due to the better accuracy and lighter ammo.

But if you must have a zombie killer that will fire after you drop it in the mud, and you'll be using is closer than 100 yards, the Ak is really hard to beat.

That's why I have an AR-15 and a 7.62 x 54 bolt action...I don't compare a 7/16 wrench with a 3/8, they both have their purpose in my toolbox.

Not really...it will run cleaner, but it still doesn't like dirt in the action. Unlike the AK, which really doesn't care; the tolerances are really that loose.

AK rules. I get sub-MOA from my Saiga 308. Piston AR is good too but AK rounds are 50% more potent so if a feral animal is hiding in a car your AK have better chance sending it to where it came from.

Forget about DI AR, soldiers get killed and captured thanks to its massive jamming power.

If you watched the video the AK 47 won hands down, except the final full auto shoot out, which was blatantly rigged.

In the first two "tests" the Ak 47 had a full wood stock.
In the last "test" it was one with a folding stock.

A folding stock rifle, on full auto, will result in lots more misses vs a wood stock.
Plus the shooter used an improper stance for full auto fire.
So much for fair competition.

M-16 and variants is a better "rifle"
AK is a better "machine gun/assualt weapon"

I'll take my AK as an assualt weapon mower...and a good bolt action for a rifle...my 300 WinMag is also good for that...

And 50% more heavy (sic). The newer M4's by the better manufacturers an certainly not nearly as prone to jam as the older M16's. Cleaner powder makes a huge difference, too. It's not 1968 any more.

Me, personally, I'd rather have more ammo on my person than fewer of a larger projectile.

We'll in certain circumstances, yes. But in a defensive mode, the round needs to be effective (take a man out of the fight) to at least 300 yards. The M855A1 will do that out past 600 yards, or so the claim. (and pierce 3/8 metal plate at 400 yards.)

Re: AK47 vs. M16 with Gunnery Sgt. R Lee Ermey
I have shot both, Ar is very nice but I just dont like the fear factor of feeling it must be cleaned after every use, or every time it drops in the mud. I know they are a bit more resiliant than that, but the action is a bit more complicated more parts odds and ends to assemble. AK is just strip down easy and rugged as hell.

Piston AR probably helps a little on that end. The ballistics are not my worry, I am not that kind of shooter. Sense you can kill with a rock if thrown hard enough.

Re: AK47 vs. M16 with Gunnery Sgt. R Lee Ermey
I never minded the M16 when in the service. Never had any stoppage/jams that were reported by others years ago. It's not difficult to keep clean either. I had one of the Chinese Norinco AKs it was nice and I really like a wood stock. It shot well and pretty sure it could tolerate alot of abuse. Tons of after market accessorie for those things I think I would like to try out one of those M14s. Very expensive but they are so sexy looking and I bet they are a pleasure to shoot/own.
