Especially when smallpox was eradicated from the world, some decades ago.. Wonder who released it?

According to this, all known smallpox viruses were wiped out from the world in the 1970s:

Smallpox is some seriously scary crap.

I hope this remains isolated; people have zero immunity to this disease now.

When I was nursing, we were sent info via the government saying it had been eradicated and who the last known patient was.

It wasn't completely eradicated, It was frozen in some cryonic chamber.

Back in 2002 was another report of a smallpox outbreak in Pakistan.

It was misdiagnosed and turned out to be chickenpox.

Definitely something to keep an eye on for sure. Last nights episode of Doomsday Preppers had a family who was prepping for a terrorist Smallpox outbreak. Facts stated about the disease were scary. It was eradicated back in 1977. I came into work this morning just to read a little more on the disease.... googled it, and one of the first articles listed was "Three children die of Smallpox in Khairpur." Making this even more potentially serious is how this is in Pakistan. If this is true, there are many people in that country looking to do bad things to Western countries where if they could somehow contain this disease where it could be controlled to distribute with evil intentions they would. Hopefully this is false as it hasn't been confirmed by Government or Health officials.

I have been keeping an eye on this and periodically check to see if there is any news update or confirmation as to whether or not this was truly smallpox. Haven't found anything new, yet.

Canada orders additional smallpox vaccines from Bavarian Nordic

Bavarian Nordic, a vaccine-focused biotechnology company, announced on Wednesday that the Canadian government ordered 20,000 additional doses of IMVAMUNE smallpox vaccine to replace its current stockpile.

The order from the Canadian government is through the exercising of an option under an ongoing contract. The vaccines will replace the stockpile that was delivered in 2009.

Bavarian Nordic began its collaboration with Canada in 2008 to address requirements for biological preparedness. The company initially received a contract to supply 20,000 doses of the smallpox vaccine to the Canadian armed forces.
