Boy did I find this thread amusing! When I was growing up in the 60's, my school district did not have enough classrooms so they contracted with a local church to use 2 of their Sunday school rooms. Oh, the horror! Ha! Ha! Hey, we were not brainwashed by religion and there was not one single parent who pitched a fit. It was cool. We even got to have recess in the graveyard but were not allowed to touch the tombstones. People today are so damn uptight and politically correct to the point of nausea.

it is a different world today where many people don't want anything to do with churches and the hypocrisy most represent. some people actually care where their children go these days especially when it deals with religion. church and state(government schools) need to stay separated.

This is more like war on common sense. I agree that religious doctrine shouldn't be imposed in schools but to treat Christmas like it is a dirty word makes no sense. Children should be taught religions from a logical, historical, and unbiased thought.

I wouldn't care if they were presenting a movie about a Islamic holiday, that is learning. Learning how to accept others, and form free independent thought about religions.

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (CBS Atlanta) — Charlie Brown has been caught in the crossfire of the “war on Christmas” mantra.

KARK-TV reports that some parents were upset that Terry Elementary School in Little Rock wanted to take children to go see a play of “A Charlie Brown Christmas” at a local church.

“The parents that we know in this situation are reluctant to speak up because they are concerned about their kids being singled out and bullied,” Anne Orsi, a lawyer and member of the Arkansas Society of Free Thinkers, told KARK.

The group is a volunteer organization of secular individuals whose goals are to “promote public acceptance of nonbelievers” and “defend science education and the separation of church and state.”

Orsi said on the group’s Facebook page that the school is “sponsoring field trips to evangelical churches.”

“While everyone loves Charlie Brown, the religious content of the program is a problem, as is the trip to a church to see it,” she said.

Parents had mixed feelings about the controversy.

Shamar Stokes told KARK that he has a problem with the religious aspect but, in the end, “wouldn’t have a problem with my child going to see Charlie Brown.”

One unidentified parent did have a problem, though.

“I think church and school should be kept completely separate at all times,” the parent told the station.

School and church have been kept separate since the 1950s and look at what a shithole the US turned into. It has become a Godless, amoral society. When kids are not taught morals at a young age they grow up aimlessly. Look at what the kids from the 1950s turned into - hippies of the 1960. That brought on the drug movement, the sexual revolution of the 1970s, and in the 1980s, aids, drug addiction, gang wars between the bloods and crips, and 40 year old adolescents still living with their parents. Real good, liberals, real good.

Believing that 'morals' originate from the church or from religions is a fallacy. Tell me, why can't children be taught morals absent any influence from any church??? Did the church invent morality?

I'm sorry you are not sophisticated enough to figure out how to teach children morals without indoctrinating them with religious dogma. Your demeanor and false assumptions speak volumes. Just have those nuns hit your kids with rulers since you obviously can't figure out how to reach them and instill morality any other way.
